Distributor Rotor alignment at TDC

When the engine is at TDC should the distributor rotor point to #1 cylinder or intake front left bolt? The service manual states the intake bolt but I have seen some online threads state the #1 cylinder.
 
With engine at TDC on compression stroke, obviously the rotor is at the #1 spark terminal. Then you adjust ignition timing while engine is running.
 
Either one will work. Just have to have the wires in the cap at the same spot. If something gets in the way when timing, you can always fudge things one way or the other.

I'm assuming your question is where to locate the slot in the oil pump drive. That adjustment pointing in the general direction of the #1 cylinder is as close as you are going to get. Moving the drive one tooth is a alrge change. Then rotate the distributot housing so it points at #1.
