I have installed a few windshields a few years ago and always used the non hardening 3M 8509 compound but I had a hard time finding it a couple years ago so I used the 8609. That stuff is the urethane type that is used for late model stuff that use no gasket nor any window trim. Unfortunately, it bonds extremely strong and subsequent windshield replacement means that the gasket has to be destroyed to get the old glass out.
I have a windshield leak even with the 8609 in place so I'm looking at buying a windshield gasket and some sort of non hardening sealant.
