I use the K&N filtered top lid in addition to the round filter, but I don't have a scoop or fresh air intake so the intake air temps are under hood temp, not ideal for performance.
Just saying that the air coming into the carb might not be ideal, and might be a limiting factor more than carb size.
A smaller carb needs more throttle opening for driving at normal speeds, so you transition into the main metering circuit sooner and most times users only tune the main jetting.
With a large carb, much of street driving is still with shallow throttle blade opening and running in the carbs transition circuit area. most people don't tune this carb circuit, so it can be an issue if the factory calibration dosen't match your situation. These part throttle driving conditions is where EFI usually has an advantage over a carb.
