Here’s what I have (the black one with tape) and I’m feeling a vibration at around 3500 rpm in fourth gear. I have an a833 with correct flex plate and weight that’s mated to a 360 LA engine. I added the weight on the flywheel and it fixed one vibration but I still have the prior one

Vibrates in Neutral so I’m narrowing it down to balancer when I rev to 3-4K and while driving in fourth gear.
Thanks all

Oh also there’s a guy selling me one buy it looks like this (the blue one)

A 833 is a 4-speed. 727 or 904 are automatics with a flex plate. Cast crank or steel crank engine. Internally balanced or externally balanced. To many unanswered questions to reply.

It’s a 4 speed 833 od with the correct flywheel and weight from 440 source.
I don’t know if it’s externally balanced or internally i bought the engine like this

how would I know ? I believe 360s are externally balancer no?

Don’t know about the crank either

Stock built 360's are externally balanced. If you have the correct weighted flywheel, then you have to move to the balancer. I'm not a great small block person, but you are moving in the right direction.

Thank you Jerry

Im seeing a small block 360 damper and 5.9 damper. Can you turn them sideways to get a look at the depth? any #s on them

Isn’t the 360 a 5.9?
let me see if I can because it’s installed and that pic I have is older

Yes and no. same measurements but I think different internals, balancers and flex plates. You can mix up early 360 with late 360/5.9 stuff and have this problem. Need a small block expert, Im a big block guy.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I didn’t see any dampers or flywheels for 360’s on the 440Source site.

There was a mention of a 360 by the OP, but I didn’t see where he specifically said that’s what he’s working on.

1) Steel 318/340 have a neutral balancer (internal balance)
2) Cast 318/340 have a weighted balancer (external balance) (not 100% sure on the 318)
3) Cast 360 have a weighted balancer (external balance) 360 only
4) Magnum 5.9 (an possibly 5.2) have a weighted balancer (external balance) Different from LA 360's

does anyone have a picture of the correct balancer for a 360 LA series engine small block

thanks anyone

yes if you go to the start of this thread, there is a picture of one painted blue.

Are you sure because that’s the one they are selling me and the guy says he’s not even sure :(

I hate to say 1000% correct... the indented part looks correct.. but I thought they were on the engine side on a 360..
Might want to wait for a small block guy to give it the blessing..

Ok, so have we decided exactly what we are dealing with here ?
First post is very confusing no info at all about the engine other than a picture of harmonic dampeners.
360, 5.9, 440 ? What year ? Stock internals ? Any details, hard to guess what it is.

I don’t have the details
It came with the car. It’s a la 360 bored to 366, had a 904 trans with same vibration

thanks and sorry for not posting the engine size

I have several 360LA motors and they all have the blue one in your picture. The other one looks like a 400 balancer. It is not one for a 5.9. I have a few of those and they are not like that one.
