Do I keep it as a sport satellite or do I just go find a V code RR or GTX?

We went through a similar choice with my daughter's 70 Sport Satellite. 318/904 w A/C. She drove the car to her job at Disneyland. Reliable and good mileage. Wasn't a matching car. While we were deciding whether to sell/build with big block, old friend sent me an email that his survivor 69 Charger R/T was going on the market and I had first shot. We sold the Sport Satellite as is and bought the Charger. She's a happy camper.

I remember putting a big block in a 318 charger many years ago. 318 was a stout little motor, I would have left it in there if I go back in time. I could cruise all night and it never had a problem.

I agree I will keep this drivetrain for a future time without a doubt

If you’re going to put that much coin into that car - frankly I’d sell it and buy what you want already done. There will be others with different opinions - but that’s mine....

I know it's a money losing battle either way but finding a restoration worthy RR or GTX would cost me at least 30k and then need to be restored I think I'm gonna keep the sport satellite and pickle the original drivetrain

I think you've all answered my dilemma question and I'm going to keep the sport satellite A sport satellite modify her a bit but keep her badged as she is. One responder hit it right on the head with if I did clone a GTX and it was really really nice...the 1st guy to come up and look at the vin and say "oh...its a satellite" would put my heart back in its shell and I'd regret doing a clone. I always look at shows for a sport in front of the word satellite and never seem to find one....I'm liking the idea someone one day will come up to me and say "wow...that's a cool car what is it" and my simple reply would be...shes a sporty...sport satellite. Thank you everyone I'll keep pictures posted of her progress....as well as bank receipts lol.

You will need to be your own assessor as to money spent .
My only preference is I like to know what has been done to my car.
Therefore I always lean to making the car myself rather than buying someone else's hot rod.
Do you know what is under the other car's nice paint?
Not to mention mechanical items.

So right which is why I'm going to spend the money correctly and finish the car I have 100% others may look nice but when you find out panels were glued in and bondo is everywhere it's not a good feeling

Let me ask this, if you restore it are you keeping the body and trim as it in now ? You said a few times you really like the car..so if you like it then keep it and forget about value because it will be what you like. Nothing worse than having a car cause it's worth X amount but keep dreaming of your dream car. Put the motor in and have a sport satellite 440-6 car. Original or not you will have a very cool car at the car shows. And as for the body shop money, see it this way, you spend the money on your car you know what you're getting, you buy a car for 25k what exactly was the body work like, filler over dents and rust ?? You never know unless you really know what you're looking for. Keep the car you like, put the 440-6 in it and be happy..they're all money pits.

I put a six pack on my GTX. You would only have to cut a small slot to work around your wiper motor. That’s all I did - and in fact if you have the 3 stage wiper motor you might not even have to do that. Mine fit just fine except that small work around. Mines a 68.

Yep, 3-speed wiper works with Six Pak air cleaner. 2 speed doesn't.

I'm tellin' ya, with patience and a lot of homework, restorable "pedigree" cars are still out there for less than that.

Agreed. Takes time and patience to find them. Project Road Runners are around for pretty reasonable money compared to some other B bodies.

1. The six pack FACTORY air cleaner does not clear an A/C compressor or a 2-speed wiper motor. It can be made to fit by cutting big pieces out of the "skirt" around the base of the air cleaner. "Most" people will try to install a 3-speed wiper motor setup (expensive & somewhat rare) & remove their air conditioning compressor. If you want to keep you A/C I think it would be a good idea to check into a compressor from an aftermarket A/C company...there's a couple. I don't know specifics, but I "thought" the aftermarket compressors are smaller and mount on the side/down lower out of the way of the six pack factory air cleaner & air grabber box ??????
2. There are other air cleaner options for a six pack, but only the factory air cleaner will seal up to an air grabber hood.

Not bad 3 speed reman at car quest it's the OEM part #3879441 for $62 bucks no way in hell would I cut an original 6 barrel air cleaner...I'd drive with no wiper motor 1st lol and yes I would use the billet vintage parts replacement a/c compressor as its lighter and much smaller than this beast I have here now. But just like every nut and bolt taken out to do the BB changeover it will be cataloged and bagged and placed in a humidity controlled environment for future keeping. Actually just got back from a dream house (what my dream is anyways) 22 cars in 3 monster garages. boy what damage I'd do with lottery winnings! I went to look at a RR clone very nicely done all sheetmetal replaced, zero rust factory style interior down to every piece of stainless and chrome redone....and its 10 grand cheaper than just my bodywork and paint alone was estimated to me....but the entire ride home all I thought about is after 38 years how many people have had this car...what corners were cut that I dont know about or cant see. I think this 6 hr journey has shown me my 1 owner sport satellite deserves to be resurrected and the right resurrection is key to what I'm gonna do. This shop I'm bringing her to is a mopar factory...everything done is to or better than factory craftsmanship it may be a boatload of money but this is going to be MY car. I dont plan on selling it...heck I think I'd be buried in it lol. So even though to a purist its supposed to have a 318 with a 904 and a 7 3/4 rear....it does have that...and that too will be pickeled and stored in the same climate controlled area for a time one day if/when that set up may be desired again. For now I'm going to put my date correct 440 with date correct aluminum 6 barrel Edelbrock manifold with a set matching set of vacuum secondary carbs with their original air grabber air cleaner set up and A833 4spd you see I found a guy a few years ago when I found this B body that wrecked his 70 440 6bbl GTX in 77 but stripped the car (except for the dam vin and trim plate that bastard!) and i bought it all, all original to 1 vehicle and it soon will be in my 30,000 sport satellite lol crazy...yes...could i spend my money better...yes. but I know the 86 year old man who drove this car till 1990 when he put it in his garage until I found it in 2013 and I want THIS car... with its single family history and the original window sticker and build sheets to drive my 2 little ones around in....and maybe introduce them to 490 lb. Ft of torque in a burnout worthy of long term memory I thank all of you for your input in leading me to the place I'm at and will post pics and updates as she comes along.

I do not have and I should have asked for the A833 is the linkage and a floor mounted pistol grip shifter so if anyone has or knows of one please let me know
