Petty Blue 67 gTx

I really was not looking for another project already a 66 Belv that I am working on. But like alot of other people I look around the typical websites. I have seen lots of them for half this price or less but they need alot more metal work. One of those things if I buy it I will think I payed to much if not I will think I lost out on a deal.

i don't know that much about power-wagons or any other brand that old.
what i do remember is the power-wagon was always considered the work truck to have.if it is usable as a daily driver, you are winning for that price.
the only thing i could see was the colour. it could of been a couple of tones darker.

ok: 2 things; put the proper hub caps on it. rick

I gotta say, I like the truck, but I think it is a little steep for what I would pay, specially for a 6 cyl model. But at the same time once you get past a certain age, the value is in the eye of the buyer and/or seller. I'm not going to tell you what I think it's worth, you have to decide that yourself. If you think you will have overpaid after the purchase, you probably have. The only purchases I have regretted are those I either shouldn't have made or paid too much for. If you really want it buy it, otherwise hold out, I would bet he'll have to sell for a bit less to get rid of that with rust in the doors, bed floor bad, only a 6cyl, parts are getting hard to find for the bodies etc. Any money you put into this one will be near impossible to get out at that price, so this one is a keeper or just a driver in my eyes.

Just my opinion,
Ben

I was told it had a repaint about 25 years ago. It was boought by a doctor who used it to plow his building. Actually comes with a plow frame but not the balde. Comes with all the original paperwork. Not that I am big into the original paperwork.

Here is my take on it.

Trucks built before 1972 (Mopar) were just that TRUCKS. They were not thought of as "cool" or bought back in those days for a second vehicle. Sure there were a few exceptions like the late 60 early 70 Chevy Cheyenne 396 package and the mid 60s Mopar HHP 426 trucks but for the most part trucks prior to 1972 were used for work and deliveries. Dodge trucks prior to 72 drove and rode like a buckboard. In 72 they were redesigned with a better ride and handling and more options to make them more attractive for a second vehicle as did the other brands. It is all history now as trucks are truley engrained in our culture now and the "thing to have."

The Pre 72 trucks have their own following but it is small by comparison to other makes and the newer Mopars.

As with all older vehicles the value is gauged by the condition and options. Here in the rust free southwest where nearly all 2nd vehicles and many first vehicles are truck, most any shortbed 4X4 truck is worth $5K with decent paint and overall condition.

A /6 standard shift (3 on the tree or 4 on the floor??) in the past has not been the most desirable combo as V8/auto are certainly more popular. It is likely that this truck has a low speed rear end so if you are thinking it will get good mileage think again.

With the rust issues stated (read paint also for these repairs) I would think there are better deals out there. Are you drawn to this particular body style? If not I know for sure there are better deals out there.

OTOH, if you look at it strictly as a transportation vehicle then i will say that where I live, to buy any kind of dependable decent looking transportation it is $3K.

Looks good to me nice straight truck and has paperwork i would get it and drive it daily. I know what you mean about should i or shouldn't i went thru the same thing when i bought my cuda i payed more than i think i should have and now [if i was able to save the money] i see things i could have bought if i had waited but i was in a hurry for another project, i love my cuda but there are things i see i like a little more but thats life, some day i'll get the roadrunner or 330 or 440 mopar to keep my cuda company.

It is a 4 on floor. I was not looking for it to be my daily transportation. I like the looks of the Power Wagons but not a must have. I have been on again off again on wanting to restore and old truck. And I believe it does have a low speed rear end.

It seems like a fair price and is a safe investment if maintained well. These trucks are work horses, very easy to maintain, very dependable, good parts availibility.
They are not built to be comfortable and can be a bear to drive in tight spots. Not great highway vehicles, and not very economical to drive.

I owned a 63 W100 Town Wagon for over 35 years. I drove it into the ground... parked it in a field for some years... then did a frame off restro and got 25K for it... so there is a market for them. I now have a 64 D200 Crew Cab that has been my daily driver for 11 years. The original owner had it painted in 83, I did a valve job about 3 years ago and thats all thats been done aside from regular service and repairs as needed. 143000 miles now and still runs strong.
That truck will serve you well and you can always get a return on your investment at that price.

bluefury,
Those are some nice trucks you have/had. Thanks for the reply. I had a 65 Ford about 25 years ago that was handful to drive. Over the years I have just bought what I liked and hopefully if I sell it I break even. Over the years I have made some great profit but lost money to. In the end I probably have broke even or even lost a little. But like most I enjoy working on them as much as driving them. Well maybe not that much.

Looks like a nice looking truck, Good luck with it!

bluefury, Thats a couple nice looking ones, Love the red 4-doors neat!.

Didn't Joey add a truck thread, or page in here somewhere? seems like i got a PM about one...
