Hello everyone,
I just replaced my mounts on the 440 and I'm tired of tearing the driver mount so I installed this chain since I've seen so many people do it. Do the mount locations look OK? I don't want to break the ear off the block!
Also, I left just a very slight jingle of slack so the mount can still do its job. Should it be slack free?

I think the tab on the K frame will bend. And you do know the chain will stretch over time?
Not trying to be a smart ***, just trying to help.
There are better mounts out there also.
 
I'm going to get the mount that has the bolts through it eventually. This is temoprary. Should I take all the slack out? What would be a better place to mount it besides the k frame tab?
 
Looks good enough to keep the oil pan and the intake manifold from trading places!
 
It looks like it's slack in the picture because the chain bends around the motor mount.
 
Does anyone know of one of the torque rods with the heim joint that is actually in stock??? 65 Satellite.
 
I have a Schumacher one goes from the block in the same ear and to the bolts that mount the front sway barlinks on the top of the k member. on a A body. Some one took over thier designs and are making them again. Darn I cannot think of who

I seem to remember a Lakewood Muscle Mount back in the day. I think it was just a solid mount for the drivers side. :D


Here it is. Not what I remembered. It has a safety thru bolt, but is still rubber mounted.

That's the way we did it back in the day. The chain looks a little weak to me.
Here's another solution. $40. Keep the Heim loose.

That chain is plenty strong, I would make it tighter. By the time the chain gets tight the mount will break again.
 
I do it differently. Take a stock motor mount and drill a 1/4" hole all the way thru it. Then take a larger drill bit and chamfer the hole on the side that will interfere. Go to the hardware store and buy a flat head 1/4" screw long enough to go all the way through, and lock it in place with a nut. I use a self locking nut so it doesn't loosen with time. Probably 50 cents in materials other than the stock mount. I broke 2 motor mounts on my Superbird, before a friend showed me this trick. Once installed nothing shows.
 
That chain is plenty stout! A few years ago, this shop on TV in the UK was doing restorations on WW2 tanks. They were lifting the turret off with a long chain about half that size. Leave a little slack like you had it, and you will be fine. It's doubtful that chain will stretch. Look up and see what that size chain is rated at. You will be surprised.
 
I wouldn't have ANY slack, That creates imapct. NO GOOD. A turnbuckle is on option, a solid motor mount is another.
 
One thing we used to do when i was younger is wrap the chain in heatshrink tube, keeps it from rattling and looks better
