Guys,

when I have the battery hooked up, the dome light is on continuously....regardless of door jamb switch position.....
the rheostat on the panel lights is not full up....so these lights should react to the door jamb switches...

my switches have 2 leads on them....both yellow....the drivers side was working at one time, now it's not....

any thoughts?

thanks,

Mark

check if you have the wrong bulb... get the number 1004

or...

loosen contact on door jam switch, or related

I'll have to check my manual because I haven't gotten that far on my rebuild but most door jam switches supply the ground not the 12V. Figure out where it's getting it's ground and you will find the problem, unplug one at a time, when the light goes out "that's the one" then touch it to ground to confirm. Again, I'm not certain if that's the way your car is wired but most are.

Hope this helps, one wire is to the buzzer and the other is the ground. The wires are labeled the same in the different pics so you can get an idea of where they go. DSCN8304.jpgDSCN8302.jpgDSCN8303.jpg Like I said, I really don't know allot about it as I've not gotten that far along yet, hopefully they're right about the bulb. These pics are from a 69 Dart, Charger, Coronet manual.

Hey everyone....great news....the dummy who put the car together used the wrong lightbulb in the dome light....I put a 1004 in there, and presto....everything is now working, and my battery, which had a draw on it while static, is no longer doing so...

thanks again to everyone who helped me out....

Mark

;)

the deal with this dome light setup is that NORMALLY everybody notes two contacts inside the socket, which makes install two contact two filament bulbs ( i.e. 1157 bulb, tail/stop ). These bulbs gets the ground through the chassis, and positive source through BOTH of the contacts for diff uses purpouses.

1004 bulb is designed to setups where the GROUND is the switch ( oposite to regular bulbs where the switch is from Positive ) so bulb chassis is isolated from filament. One of each contacts is each pole.

Being this, if you install a regular 2 contacts bulb where the filaments are grounded to the bulb chassis, then will get constant ground throught the socket being attached to roof, AND the positive source, being constant will meet one of the contacts of the bulb, lighting up one of the filaments.

Sweat, glad to hear you got it fixed. Nacho, I kinda wondered if that was why the wrong bulb would do that, I'll make note of that.
