I just discovered that apparently the ignition switch was changed on my 1964Fury not long before I got it. The key works the ignition switch just fine, but has no effect on the door locks. That key (and the trunk key) are all that I got with the car, and now the previous owner is long gone.

Can I do anything with the door or ignition locks to get the key to work on both? Or will I just have to get new door locks and carry two keys, and if true, where to get new door locks? Thanks!

Just take the key & the cylinders to a locksmith, they can re-code them.

Bought new ignition tumbler, door locks, glove box, and trunk lock from a guy on e bay that seems to specialize in locks. Can't remember his name, if you can't do a search on there to find him I'll look for his receipt tomorrow. All new locks....2 keys.

Yea, Joe, like to hear who that is! I've read about recoding the pins in the cylinders, but can't seem to find a good article about it anywhere. There's one here on the board, but it doesn't cover the 64's.

I've seen two different prices for the lock sets on ebay. I think a $49 and a $99.
They look the same.

Moving the pins around in the door cylinders is really pretty easy, if you are patient and keep them organized, although you may not have enough to get all 5 lined up.

I just did my drivers door and trunk. Got 4 pins lined up for the door (hey, 4 out of 5 ain't bad), but only three for the trunk. Trunk cylinder was kinda loose, too, but at least they both lock and unlock with a key.

Mind you, I also had just purchaseed a couple of cylinders from a junkyard for $5, sio I had a few extra pin sets, and still couldn't get all 5.

I use an egg tray to keep in sets together, and try to organize them from smaller to larger in one row, and relative to where they work with respect to the cut on the key in the other row.

Usually takes me about a hour if I'm rusty. About 20 min If I'm warmed up.

Polkat the locks I got were NOS and the guys name was Thomas J. Sestak. In doing a search last night I see there are several people on e-bay selling lock sets.

Good Luck!

Joe
