There is nothing wrong with fruit cake......unless there are nuts inside.

The problem with the nuts is they tend to go rancid as the cake ages. That is what poisoned many soldiers fighting in WW1 - sent cakes from home (New Zealand & Australia mainly) - by the time the cake arrived on the front lines of Europe & Turkey etc, the nuts had gone bad, and in turn the soldiers were poisoned.

Fresh is the key here!! LOL. I stay away from any baked dessert that will last for six months if kept cool. Donuts only last two days................ A belly bomb in a war is truly unfair!!

If it's a Collins Street Bakery (Corsicana, Texas) fruit cake I am down for it, but those cheap loaf fruit cakes in the grocery stores, no way.
