Dreamers!

There's lots of unscrupulous people and business out there that do rip their customers off, guess this has been going on since Adam and Eve. I just got taken for $1800.00 from CL from an asshole who said "This LS 6.0l engine ran good when I took it out of that Silverado". Well, I took the short block to machine shop for evaluation and clean up, Spun main bearing, and cracked journal, crank and block are junk. I called guy and he told me "No Warranty", I told him "But you said this engine ran". So, do I go take a Pipe Wrench to him, or, bring a lawsuit on him? So, I should have known better, but, the customer found this bozo, and asked me if the engine looked good, I said it did, but, I don't know the real deal until we get inside it. So, it continues! However, I've learned to go to swengines.com for the same engine for same price but with a 180 day guarantee.

Sorry Donny . . . I agree with you that those type of people are the lowest. So sorry that it happened to you - you don't deserve it.

No sense in beating a dead horse. On the other hand being the boss, worker, secretary and customer service guy is too much load. I'm just assuming, didn't read all the posts. Hire someone to deal with the creaps and do what you love. Life is too short to be miserable and grouchy.

It was a moment, it sounded gloomy, I'm not usually a doom and gloom kind of folk, just had a moment, and was on the learning curve. People want good work, and will usually pay for it, just takes a bit of work to do so.

When you have your next "moment" just remember to take a step back and think about where else you could be....sitting at a desk in an office wishing you were doing what you are doing....that's what most of us do...and I hate it. I deal with morons all day too but just in a different way. I've moved to better positions over the years but none of them are entertaining, fun, or rewarding....just jobs.

Thanks cdr! And thanks also kb67mopar! I go in each day and do what I absolutely LOVE to do; tear into old cars, and fix them! I'm the one that makes your car look like a skeleton and bring it back to a complete point; completely rust free, and with new metal, but no paint and bodywork, that's for the next craftsman to do. Trust me, my last 8 or 9 yrs in the Army I spent every day thinking about when I retire I want to have this or that set up; and I'm 'there', as I said, every day I'm doing what I love, and, getting payed for it too -- well, after pulling some teeth I do! lol

Way COOL Donny . . . To dream of the job that you wanted to do, and then to go out there and do it . . . MORE power to you ! !

( maybe I've got to drive my shell out to you so it can done "right" ! ! Don't think I haven't thought that already. )

So you're a DENTIST ? ?

Speaking of Dentists, look at this Corvette underside I'm currently working on, looks like some teeth that were rotted, and the rot cut away...

I have seen both sides of this argument, some from the perspective of my Father-in-law's speed shop, and some from my perspective as a customer.

If you have a shop that is trying to "milk" the customer then I could see the customer rightly getting pissed. On the other hand, if you have an honest shop doing quality work and a customer wants to beat them up for every cent, then that isn't right either. Some shops are thieves and some customers are Aholes. So I am sure there are plenty of stories on both sides there.

In my view, as a customer you have to do the best you can to pick out a reputable vendor. On the flip side, a restoration shop should probably spend some time to be sure the customer truly understands and is reasonable. If he/she is not, then let them walk away. If you have an honest shop, doing quality work that communicates with their customers then everything normally turns out OK.

At least this I my hope as I work towards spending my hard earned savings on my dream car...
