I have a 8 1/4 in my 69 satellite and am installing a 8 3/4. The present universal is 3 1/4 inches cap to cap. The 8 3/4 looks like it takes a 3 3/4 inch universal. The bearing cap appear to be the same diameter.
can a drive shaft shop install a new yoke on the driveshaft or is there any other way?
thanks for any advise/help

Sound like you need a combination u-joint. Need to figure cup size on yokes. Could be 7260/ 7290 but need those cup sizes.
Edit: Maybe 7260/1330 u-joint?

A good driveshaft shop can weld in new yokes and balance the shaft for you. It might have to be shortened a little as I believe the pinion is shorter on a 8 1/4.
Check out these guys in Clifton, NJ. I have used them before and they are top of the line. About 40 minutes from you in normal "asshole NJ traffic".

Either a new end on the driveshaft (easy for a shop to do) or a combination U-Joint would work.

The combo 7260/7290 is very common. Most auto part stores can get them. Napa for sure.
