Driving your "real" cars

for a few years I drove my '68 newport every day, only reason I don't anymore is because my little '88 accord gets 2 1/2 times the millage on cheaper gas.

In the warmer months, I drive the 73 to run errands, etc every day or two. Its pretty much been sitting since it got colder (but I do take it for a spin at least once a week).
I work for the State, so I guess my daily driver would be a State owned F150, I drive it to and from work, and all day long at work.

I've never really understood why people buy these classics, spend a ton of time and money bringing them back to life.....just to let them sit up in a garage. Insure them well and enjoy them....life's too short.

when my charger was driving, i was driving it daily. fried the ignition wiring or something though. so now it sits in the driveway. I drive my satellite everyday though. rain or shine. drive about 25 miles daily to school. I'm always getting looks in this thing. especially with how loud it is. constand thumbs up too! and once i'm done building my dart, that will become my daily driver!

and i always thought people were lying when they have said about a cop pulling them over just to talk about their car, but it really happened to me! the cops don't take it easy in my town, but this cop pulled me over and asked if I had a 440 in my "roadrunner". It looks like a runner, but its just a satellite. had to explain that to the cop since i don't have any emblems..lol

Great set of cars, my wifes from Modesto, know Sac pretty good too. Cant wait till next Grafitti weekend, hopefully i can make it down next June. Gotta love it when a cop stops to talk, had a King County Sherrif give me the thumbs up the other day, passing the opposite way at a stop sign.

awesome.

what is "grafitti weekend"?

Yeah, dont like lazy cars, mine fouls a plug once every morning on start up, so i give it some hard exercise once i get it out of the neighborhood. Gotta look at that sometime.

in Ducati circles we call that 'the italian tune up' :):)

I have a 4 door 68 satellite that is my daily driver 12 months a year

When I built my 68 Satellite 440+6 9 passenger wagon I drove it every day. Even drove it to the east coast with an empty trailer on the way out, and occupied on the back.

Graffitii weekend is held in Modesto evey summer around June 11.

George Lucas was born in Modesto, there is a big car show/cruise at the Fruityard.

My brother in laws father was Jack McCoy, old Winston West nascar driver. He used to have a car show the same weekend at the college in Modesto.

He passed away last May, dont know if his old crew chief will continue the shows. We went to his shop to sort things out last summer, he still has his restored No. 7 race prepped Daytona.

If you havent seen the old post, the pictures of his shop and cars can be seen here.

My daily driver (rain, snow, wind or sun) until I finish the 68.

I drive everything I build - so far. I drove my 68 Mustang GT 302 for 10 yrs and put 95,000 miles on it AFTER I restored it. Sold that and moved on to restoring a 1972 Porsche 911T. About all I could stand was to put 35,000 miles on it in a couple of years then sold it Jan 08. I've been splitting duty between my 02 Durango and my 71 Ranchero. Soon to be running is my 69 RR and I plan to run the wheels off it!

I bought the Runner clone to drive everyday spring summer and fall. We'll see how that works out this spring. I drive my 70 Chevelle SS two or three times a week.
