Dropping 318 LA engine in 62 B body V8 K

Will the engine brackets on this '68 LA 318 motor mount to my v8 K in my 64 Belvedere or do I need 318 poly engine brackets??? and what yr rubber mounts will I need???

hi in 1976 I put a 69 318 la in 1964 if i remember right I used the mounts off the motors i had i think i used one 64 and one la posision the motor and you will see , it was a combination of both , no welding or cutting . good luck

Your title says 62 but your description said 64, so I'm not sure which year you're going in to. If a 64, as Al already stated it's a bolt in. If you had access to one of those old Direct Connection brochures on engines I know that document described it clearly. Sorry I'm not able to find my copy in my world class filing system. If a 62 I'm pretty sure the original V8 K member in that year used a completely different mount set up.

Going in 62 Dart with 64 v 8 K. Sorry I got ot all messed up/ Part of problem is what we all the engine steel brkt a nd what we all the rubber biscuits maybe!! LOL Right now I have set of the oem steel brackets that came on the 68 318, I have to wonder IF the rubber biscuits are the issue????

You will need the 64 biscuits.. not sure if they will line up to the 68 brackets. But the whole mount deal from a 64 poly may bolt well to the 68 LA motor.

I will try to research this all some more. On FB there is a poly site they might know.
I have several other"project" cars that are also keeping me busy!!
I have a running poly 318 sitting in a 64 Bel. but I can't tell anything with it is there!!! lol

Well the good news for you is that switch is a bolt in. Bad news is we've not been able to confirm all parts needed. Since reading your original post I've been racking my feeble brain about this swap and I seem to remember the poly mounts and brackets were supposed to bolt to the LA block. Not doing your progress much good here, so still trying to find that Direct Connection pamphlet I mentioned earlier.

The K is atually a 64 I have found out. I have the brcket forthe LA 318 jsy=t rying to see IFthe poly brckets are different, and if so do I need them and also to get the 64 poly rubber biscuits.

The only difference is the 62 k-frame had additional brackets that mounted to the k-frame. I have 62 bb and sb k-frame brackets and even those are identical.

The poly in my 64 sits exactly where the poly in the 62 sat in relation to the steering and inner shock towers.

It appears the only outstanding question is do the LA engine brackets put the engine in the same position as the poly brackets.

I have the poly brackets out, measure the LA brackets and/or post a pic and we will see.

The brackets are on the engine and I can really get to it for good measurements or pics. I do have a guy interested in this question that has a set of poly and LA 318 brackets. I will askh im if they interchange. I assume the LA brackets if used will need either poly biscuits.

I finally found the brochure I mentioned earlier! Bulletin #28, dated August 1973, Mopar Engine Swap Manual.

"B-Body conversions

The B Body group can be divided by model year into three smaller, nearly identical, groups - '62-65, '66-70, 71 and newer. Since all engines have been available in the B body, engine swapping is quite simple if the proper parts are used. The earlier 62-65 B body has three K members - one for the 6, one for the 'A' and 'B' engines and one for the 426 hemi. (It talks a bit about 6 cylinder K member here )

The 318 used in the 62 65 models uses the old design 318 which is larger and heavier than the new 318. The late model 318 will bolt directly to the old 318 insulators, brackets and K member. The 340 and 360 engines are also a bolt installation except that the left engine bracket must be reworked as shown on page 19."

Later it lists the 64-65 engine mount brackets for 273/318 as 2402185 and the engine mount insulators for 64-65 as 2402182 and 83.

I understand that all the brackets for poly and LA engine all fit a LA block, yes some require a little tweeking at the block.

Both the Poly and LA brackets mount to the blocks the same. Same bolt spacing and what not. Difference is in the height of the bracket and of the towers on the K frames. 63-5 towers are a lot taller than the 66-72 towers. There for the 63-5 poly brackets are much shorter then 66-72 LA brackets. That being said I think the key is using the correct brackets for the K frame.
