Can anybody tell me if an 11" drum will work w a 10" brake setup? I must have ordered the wrong size drums and not sure if I can keep and use or if I should send back for the tens? Thank you!

You will also need to replace the lower ball joints because the 10" BJ won't clear the backing plates.

Meep don't think he stated front or rear but could you shed some light on this. I've never heard of this. I've only know of one lower ball joint that fits 65-72B

Good point Mark. There is a ball joint for the 11x3 brake setup and the difference is the steering arm has a bend to clear the deeper backing plate. I believe the tie rod ends up in the same position but just makes a curve getting there. I don't recall what the factory Bendix disc brake cars do for ball joints but possibly use the 11x3 one as well.

Well now you got me diggin in the books.

Sorry O bean I'm going have to dis-agree with you on this one. The 70/1 factory parts book show one LBJ for all brakes on B/E as well as my Moog catalog. I've been using the Moog K781 and K783 LBJ's since the mid 70's and used them on my 2 cars that had 11x3 fronts. 71 Cuda and a 71 GTX

Here it is out of the '69 Parts manual:

Possibly in 1970 they just used the one BJ that had the clearance for the wide 3" drums, and also possible the aftermarket superseded to that joint as well, but I'm tellin' ya my 66 Belvedere had 10" drums and the lower BJ's would not allow the installation of the 11x3 drums.

Well now you might be on to something here Meep. I don't have a 68/9 book but have a 66 and the 70/1 books.
I believe the 11x3 front were on 70/1 only, not 69 and older. Correct?
70/1 LBJ have different part#'s than Prowash's 69 book.
The 69 book show same number for all brakes
The 66 book show the same 486/7 joint as the 69 book BUT only for disc brakes in 66.
2275462/3 for drum brakes in 66.
Very interesting. Moog just shows one joint for 65-72B. Must be modified to fit all brakes.
I love investigating interchange. See what a good debate can led to?

Sooooooooooo yes Meep you probably did have problems with the swap.

Here is the difference in the lower ball joints. The MOOG part is correct for the big front brakes (note the curved steering arm) and the other part shown with the orange Elgin box would be for the 10" drum cars (arm is more straight).

You guys should get a job at the Chrysler Museum or something...LOL Heck, I didn't even know they had a 11" x 3" drum (thought biggest was 11" x 2.5"), let alone a different arm for the lower joint.

Heres a set that I sold a while back.
Thought I had a pic of the drum but they use a smooth squared off drum.

All RR's, GTX, R/T's and other HP cars including my 66 hemi cars had 11x3 drums as standard equipment. And they were smooth, not finned, as MarkS pointed out. So far I am quite happy with them on my 66 440 Bel. My brakes were donated to me by a buddy and came off a 69 GTX 440. My 68 RR has the very rare Bendix 4 piston brakes, and to add another twist to this story, disc brake cars used the 10" rear drums.

I've had several HP cars with 11x2.5 brakes. My 71RR has 11x2.5, Same on my 3 69 RR's. Actually all of my 12 RR's had either 11x2.5 or disc. 11x3 was an option on 383 cars. May have been standard on Hemi cars but not others.

My '69 had the 11" x 2.5" as well, with the fined drums...Same with my buddies. Think like moparmarks mentioned, may have been an option or reserved for the real high end stuff.

Can't remember ever pulling off 11x2.5 drums from the front any GTX's or RT's. They were always 3" wide and the 2.5's were on the rear. Also never pulled any finned front drums but the rears were finned. I parted a lot of cars in the early 70's and a lot of water has gone under the bridge but my mind is still 'kinda' good lol. One thing I do wish if that I would of had more foresight to what these cars would later become!

I think that the 11X3 were part of the Hemi suspention package along with the .92 T-bars and 7-leaf rear springs. Standard on 440HP and Hemi cars. 383 cars with the A31 or A36 package should have the 11x3 I would think.
I have a several of the 11x2.5 finned front drums. I'll get pics.

Ya I've found this to be true. Have had alot disc cars with 10" rears. Parted out a 72 Coronet wagon the had disc with 11x2.5 rears.

Yup, I've had several E body cars with front disc and all of them had 10" rear drums.....including RT's and Cuda's

Thanks for bringing that up Cranky....Mine were finned in back only..

So would this be an 11" x 3" on the Front of my bird? Doesn't really matter, long gone and replaced with Disc's, but would like to know for future reference. They worth anything if they are a "11 X 3"?
