I was hoping you guys could give me some advice on the easiest way to get my "new" 68 Charger on jack stands. I have been working on a an old vette for 5 or 6 yrs and thats the only experience I have. The vette has 3 crossmembers that connect the "rails" of the frame. I put my floor jack under the cross member that "cradles" the engine and I bring the entire front end up and then I put stands on both corners in front of the doors. Then I put the jack under the member right in front of the differential and bring the entire back up. And place my stands on the back corners. Very fast.
I was looking at this charger and i dont really know where you would put a jack and bring up the entire back (haven't looked at the front much cause of the way its parked). Do you have to just work the corners and do it 4 times? I dont think you could put a jack under the differential could you? Anyhow I know this is a dumb question but I was hoping you guys could tell me how you do it that is safe but quick.

Thanks - Brian

Look directly under the front of the car under the engine. There's a big frame there. It's called a K member. Jack the front up by that. Then get along side of the car right where the door meets the fender and look under the car. You will see a "frame rail" that is part of the floor pan. You can put your jack stands there for the front. Take the jack around to the rear. Slide the jack under the car directly under the center of the rear end. This is called the "third member". Jack up the rear by that. Look under the car in front of the rear wheel openings. You will again see a "frame rail" stamped into the floor pan much like the front. Put the jack stands there just in front of the front leaf spring hangers.

what he said...Ma Mopar didn't have the tightest gaps n body lines, but the underpinnings def. are stronger than hell!

jacking it up by the k-member and the sure grip (that's what the rear end is called in MoPar land lol), is the way to do it...

i also like to put a floor jack under the rear-end and k-member (if 2 floor jacks are available), when it will be up for a while...just to take the stress of the body; i know, im ****--pretty typical of MoPar guy---lol, but i sleep better at night!!!

Remember, there are no stupid questions. Maybe the one you don't ask.

Thanks guys I see the k-member and all the jack stand locations but I am still confused about the location for the jack on the rear end. I am assuming my gas tank is stock but dont know. Basically I have a very small area right on the very back behind the tank (under bumper) that really doesnt look like a "crossmember" and doesnt look like it would support the weight of the car? Then within a few inches you get into the back of the gas tank as it reaches almost to the bumper. Then in front of the tank there is a very small clearence between the differential and the tank. I see a crossmember up in there that the shocks are mounted to. It looks like a place that would support the car but I dont think there is a good way to get a jack up thru there, at least not a floor jack? Are you guys jacking the car up way in the back in that little area under the bumper behind the tank? Just want to make sure because without knowing that doesnt look like an area I would trust?

Look under the rear of the car. Locate the axle tubes. Then look in the center of the axle tubes. You'll see a large, roundish looking center....right in the middle of the rear axle. That's where you place the jack. Under that.

Jack the rear up buy the rearend differential ,when you get it in the air ,i do this anyways.i put the jackstands just infront of the rear wheel at the frame .Always use the frame for jackstands or you can also put them under the axles.Hope this helps

I cannot remember if the wheel wells on the 68 will allow tire removal if you put the jack stands undet the axle as in the pic...so best to put them under the rear frams rails like I described earlier. Whatever you do, take your time and do it slowly. You don't need to drop 3500 pounds on you. That would suck.

She is looking good,i would vote for her if i could.LOL

OK thanks, I gottcha, I am just not used to the terminology but I see where to put the jack. Great appreciate the help.

I place My jack under the pumpkin to raise the rear..jack stands go on frame, I place the jack under the front K frame and place stands on front frames
