with the ignition key on but not running how many volts should show on the volt meter at the coil. 383, 63 chryco something. also same ? for electric choke. thnx. hate electrical.

most of it was in ohms and i tested in volts. i was getting about 3-3.5 v at the coil and a tad less at the choke. the car runs good but it was the choke i was pondering. i don't like the way it starts but once run a bit its perfect. some where i heard of people wiring the choke off the coil, that how i came up with the coil volts. basically need to know what volts at choke.
what the heck are you doing up this late.

working on my tail panel!!! lol

i had an electric choke a few years back...it burnt up in a little poof of smoke. the PO had wired it to the wiper motor harness {and not very well, mind you!! lol}. after a checking over, all the rest of the wires were ok...(thank God!!!) and i replaced the harness from the bulkhead to the wiper motor with a year one piece. sooooooo, i havent had a choke in a few years...

so from what i am getting is 12v to choke not 3v. probably why it starts hard

Tail panel is looking great Mario!! You'll have to post a thread on your work if you haven't already. I'm sure a lot of guys would be interested how you're getting that done.

That's a good question on the choke shag...I'll dig through some of the saved carb rebuild kit instructions I have piled up. Maybe there's something that will come to light from them.

If you disconnect the wires you should get 12V at the choke and pretty close to 12V at the coil. The choke is a resistance heater and with it hooked up it may pull the 12V down a bit but I can't imagine all the way down the 3V. The coil primary circuit is completed to ground through the points when they are closed. If you get very low voltage then it's possible you have high resistance at the points or somewhere else in the circuit.
