I used to think I’d never want a ‘73 up Duster. But it wouldn’t be hard to backdate it with the better looking ‘70-‘71 tail panel. Hell, they make the Demon one as well!
I agree with 440 PHIXX. My first wife had one. I found out there are approx. 18 different front ends that will bolt right on with maybe a little drilling or something & the body lines work! That is Plymouths & Dodges. I might be wrong but if you look at the 67 to 76 A bodies, there are many varied choices and that makes for a large variety to choose from. I put a 68 Valiant chrome grill on her car. If the body isn't too far gone and the price is right, I would grab it!
LOT'S of "hits" on FABO when a Duster or Demon/Dart Sport is up for sale. I'd say buy it if the price is good. Sell the good parts on it if it's truly not fixable. I know they made millions of um' but there aren't that many left. I know I wish I'd kept a few of mine.
I've been looking for years for a "reasonably priced" Duster driver to tool around with but nothing of any year Duster is cheap anymore which tells me there is interest in all years of them. I have always like them. Back in the day we done alot of street racing, not hard to make a fast car out of one.
I believe the 72-75 Duster is the best drag race platform for a first time Mopar race attempt? Certainly least expensive. They are light. When taller rear tires are added? The Duster gets nose heavy. Thus naturally launch more stable than other Mopar models. Ideal platform for a 383/400 B-block stroker build. Providing very possibly the most Mopar bang for the buck?
My '74 Index 10.0-10.5 drag race Duster. 451 N/A single 4 barrel build. 3000lbs dry weight with 6 point cage. 727 reverse valvebody 727. 4.56:1 8 3/4", Mosier spooled 35 spline axles, SS springs w/snubber rearend. 30x10.5" tires. 15" rims.
I am trying to get it to 9.90s? But that 1/4 sec is proving tougher than my build estimates suggest? (Never as fast as one hopes. Lol.) Anything faster? Needs chassis/license qualifications. Including safety module additions and updates.
