Just got done decoding the fender tag on my 70 Roadrunner (I did back in '96 when I got it, but I was a teen back then! Couldn't find the sheet of paper I wrote it all down onto, been awhile! lol) It's a 70 Roadrunner, 383 4spd coupe that was originally (and will be once again) DY3 yellow gold, with a dark green decor package interior. It has the trim for a vinyl top, yet you can tell the roof never had a vinyl top on it. I noticed it had DY3 for the lower paint code and also the top color code. Did many of these cars come that way, with vinyl top trim but a painted top? Years ago there was a 70 Roadrunner and GTX registry website that I sent my fender codes to and the guy replied back that it was a fairly rare color combo. Originally I was going to paint it a high impact color, but nowadays I'm thinking go back to stock colors... if anything, it'll definitely be the perfect grandma-looking, sleeper car (at least, color wise!) lol :headbang:

Yep, they came that way. Had a freind with a R4 red with a white painted top.

Yeah, I've noticed a few cars with tops painted a different color than the bottom, just always thought this car a bit odd for basically being completely one color, yet having the larger trim and moldings that the vinyl top cars have. Guess I can't complain, vinyl tops look nice and all, but I've seen (and owned), quite a few cars where the roof under the vinyl is about gone. At least my roof is nice and rust free (unlike most of the rest of the car! lol)

Hi,

post a pic of the fender tag. There should be a V02 (two tone paint) code on it

Here's a pic of my fender tag that I just took. I believe the DY3 on the 2nd line stands for a yellow gold bottom, but then instead of a vinyl top code on the 3rd line it also has DY3 (if I'm reading that right.) Unless the V8X on the end of the 3rd line means a black top? I think it stands for a black transverse stripe on the trunklid.
