Talked to my machinist today. My 331 is supposed to have a nominal deck height of 10.320". He said it sits now at 10.385". I know Chrysler was sloppy with dech heights being too tall, but WTF?

So, All I want to do is deck the block to the STOCK height and nothing more. At this point I have to wonder if my intake will bolt on once we get the block in spec. I certainly hope it would because I plan not to go lower than the 10.320" that it's supposed to be. Is my deck height number wrong? It's all I can find everywhere. I just don't want to knock too much off cause you caint put it back. If I have to mill the intake, so be it. I just want the deck height correct. Thanks.

what year is your 331ci hemi what's it out of ??... I didn't find it quickly, but I did run across a great site for them, allot of spec.'s & information... www.ClassicHemi.com/331hemi.shtml

I thought the deck height of the 331 & 354 was 10.390. Will look for my books and see if I can find were I got that info.

:iamwithstupid: I was thinking the same thing, but couldn't find it to say for sure...

I spoke with Bob Walker at Hot Heads a while ago. He got "10.385" outta his mouth even before I told him what mine measured. So I guess that means the Tex Smith Hemi book and ALL the info on the net is wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

yeah you can't believe every thing we get off the www... LOL

Yeah I know....but it's even listed as 10.320 on the Victory Library. That's usually pretty accurate.

Not sure if He's still alive, but I had a long phone conversation with Ed Pink years ago, and he said that a 331 was his first Hot Rod engine and loved them... He said they are still very popular for street rod guys, because the width of the oil pan is about the same as a SBC....
I was going to put one I had into my front engine dragster, and found his name and number in the Mopar Performance racing manual.... I thought what the hell,,, I'll call it and sure enough Ed answered! He still had some engine adapter plates, and the likes up on some shelves for small Hemis like yours "and mine at the time"....
Might be worth a call????

Well, I guess you are glad to know you have a bigger deck than you thought you did.

When all else fails, call Bob.

I think he's still alive, Ed Pink is in the center white haired short guy photo below @ Toyota Long Beach Grand Prix, he was honored also by Motorsports Hall of Fame 2012 Inductee....... but long gone, along with, Mickey Thompson, Joe Pisano & Keith Black, all 4 were preeminent SoCal "The Long Beach Gang" & Hemi guys

According to the boys over on the Hamb, they've seen deck heights on the 331 and 354 from 10.308 all the way to 10.395. That's nuts. I'm just gonna square mine up right where it is and call it done.

I decked my block and trued up the heads on my 392 and the intake fit with some finess. It does change some top end geometry so check your push rods. I went with adjustable 3/8" push rods on mine. And opened up the pushrod holes in the heads for clearence. There is a hemi tech section over on the hamb with plenty of info and also sources for parts and shop work.

Yeah I got me some Hot Heads adjustable pushrods. Gotta have um since I'm runnin a solid.
