Carb worked good for several days, maybe fuel pump is bad. I have a glass filter and no gas is in it after i pump carb.

Disconnect the fuel line coming out of the pump, put the end in a can, and crank the engine to see if it is pumping fuel out.

i just tried that and no gas at all so pump is bad.

i know there is 5 gallons in it,i put that much in it.

Sounds like you've got it but you said you put 5 gal. in it. Was the tank empty before? If so, did you crank it long enough to allow the empty fuel line to pull gas all the way from the tank? Were you able to put your thumb over the line while cranking to see if there was any pressure?

When did you put the 5 gallons in it? :D If it's a big block we're working with, also check the length of the pump push rod inside the block. IIRC, it's supposed to be 3 1/4" long. You are also supposed to change it if you're using a billet cam. Many overlook this rod on a rebuild. They do wear out.

tank was empty i drained old gas out and put new gas in car has been setting for a long time.it is a 383 eng,no problem until i drained old gas out.

Some times the old fuel line will clog up after sitting for a long tome. Mine did. I had to replace the pick up assembly at the tank. The fuel evaporating leaves a residue behind which sticks in the lines.

do size change for the rod if i am using a regular material camshaft like a comp solid lifter. thanks

The pushrod for a billit or roller cam is advertised @ 3.242" with a bronze tip. (might be other applications that differ)

The stock one or for your cam would be 3.220". Not much difference between them. So if your measuring with a ruler 3 1/4".

problems fixed with a new fuel pump and i used my compressor to blow fuel lines out.car fired right up with no hesitation at all, thanks to all for their input. thanks fbbo

I've also run into the rubber connecting line between hard lines weather cracked and the fuel pump losing its prime.

i bought a full 3/8 fuel line with just rubber supply line needed at front and back, instead of the old 5/16 line with 3 or 4 rubber inserts and they are old and crusty.i will be buying a new gas tank and sender unit as well. i will be replacing all of this at the same time in april.

I'm getting old and crusty too, but I can still supply a little gas from time to time. Lol.

Save the old sending unit for possible rebuild. New ones DNF.
