Edelbrock EFI Conversion - Pro Flow 4 XT

New tank arrived today. Ordered late in the day Wednesday and was at my door by 1 PM this afternoon. Pretty awesome!

I'm still missing a new filler neck which I could only find on ebay. I don't believe that will arrive until middle to late next week. But we'll get as far as we can over the weekend so we can throw the tank in as soon as we have the missing parts.

Sorry for the slow update here. Been a busy week of work but making a little a progress. New fuel tank from Tank's Inc is in the car. The filler neck has me a bit concerned. It slid into the rubber grommet much easier than I expected. I'm worried its going to leak once I fill the tank up. I checked to make sure it was contacting on all sides of the grommet and I didn't see issues. I just expected it to be a a tight squeeze getting the neck onto the gas tank.

Wiring in the car is nearly complete. I knew converting to fuel injection was going to bring a lot of wiring, however I'll admit I underestimated by quite a bit. I'm really itching to get into the car and driving again as its getting nice out. But I don't don't think I'll be able to deal with the current look of the wiring for much more than this summer. Tucking away all of the connections is no simple task. I'd like to rewire some of the harnesses at some point to try and get a cleaner look. But right now I'm ready to drive.

The water neck, intake pipe, throttle and kickdown cable are the last purchases I need to complete the build at this point. I wanted to get everything else back in the engine before I worried about routing any of these items.

Picture of how it sits as of this afternoon, wiring should be completed tonight sometime.

Good aesthetic mate with the valve covers.

Yeah I kind of lucked out there. They were the same valve covers I had on the car before except in black and they matched the texture of the intake system perfectly. Turned out pretty nice I thought. Thank you and enjoy the weekend!

I hate to Quote my self, but. I just set my tank up and my Readings were 82 - 8 not the 73 - 10 that they are suppose to be. Can't wait to test the other 2 cars.

I might switch to that style.

Glad I didn't have to worry about a trans kick down cable. My Coronet is a manual trans.
I posted to the other thread on some of the issues I ran into.

Good tips on the intake elbows, the throttle body is at least 4.25".

Photo of the original setup before battery relocation and re-wiring, and swapping to the FAST 2.0 controller. (had the old xt version with old controller.)

Well this has been an interesting project. I can say everything I have seen so far on the Edelbrock system and getting the car started for the first time was awesome. Super simple and the car started right up. I've actually had the car running for two weeks. However I have not been able to drive it yet and I haven't wanted to post any updates until I could truly talk about the Fuel Injection system itself. However I figured an update is probably worth while at this point.

Two weeks ago when I started the car for the first time. Transmission fluid was shooting everywhere from a cracked line to the cooler. I would bet I caught one of those lines when I was getting in and out of the engine bay getting it prepped for paint. I tried being careful and don't specifically remember catching one of them. But it wasn't leaking prior to the engine pull.

It took me about a week to get parts in and get the lines fixed. So two weekends ago I started the car again and made it thru the initial tuning setup. I was about to take a video to post up here for you guys and smoke started coming from the engine bay... Power steering pump went bad.

After spending all afternoon running around Saturday to get a power steering pump I had it in the car and ready to go by late Saturday. I was pretty excited yesterday to take the car for a spin. I spent the morning bleeding brakes and setting the car back on the ground. I finished hooking up headlights and so on. Fired up the car around noon. Went through some final checks and realized my alternator was not charging the car. I replaced the alternator and still no luck. I went back thru every connection to verify I had the car hooked up the way it was prior to the cut over to fuel injection. Everything matched.

I'll save the rest of what we checked for the electrical forum, but in short, tonight starts with pulling the wiring harnesses out and looking for a broken wire. I've run across this before with one of the headlight wires some time ago. A lot of these wires are super brittle from all of the years, and to get the engine bay painted, I was either moving wire bundles around or disconnecting wire harnesses more so than other engine pulls in the past. I'll let you know what it ends up being.

With all that said, I can say that I am super excited for this system. Anything I've had to do related to the Edelbrock system has been pretty easy. I couldn't believe how simple it was to get through the initial startup tuning. So far the system has just worked. No real tweaks or having to modify things to make the car run. It just works. Even without driving the car yet. If I crack the throttle open the engine jumps with no hesitation. Pretty impressive considering its never left my garage to go through the self tuning. I dropped that idle to 600 RPM and man does that lope sound good. I'll snag a video tonight before I start pulling wires so you can hear it.

And a big thank you again to all of you for the help. Especially with avoiding the gas tank problems I would have run across. You help is definitely why much of this has been so easy so thank you again. Looking forward to seeing you out on the road.

Its good to see the car back on the ground again:

Awesome, in way, except the problems, glad I could help..

Quick update,

My wiring woes have been somewhat resolved, at least good enough to get the car out over the last week and a half and get a good amount of driving in. I need to replace the bulkhead connectors as a number of the pins are broken unfortunately. Should have noticed this when I was connecting everything back up after the engine bay was painted. Lesson learned.

I have to say I am truly impressed with the Edelbrock system. The simplicity of getting the car up and running once everything was installed was very simple. Even from day one the car ran well and it keeps getting better with each day I drive. My 3rd or 4th time driving I did have an oxygen sensor go bad. By the time I made it home the car was running terribly. I probably should have reset the self learning feature once I replaced the sensor. As it took me roughly another day and half of driving before I felt the car had the throttle response and clean idle prior to the sensor going bad.

I would tell anyone if they are considering this kit to absolutely get it. I'll probably throw one more update out here mid summer after having the system for a couple months. But so far the experience has been excellent!

The issues with the Bulkhead connector:
1 - It is unsealed, so corrosion is worse than if it was sealed.
2 - the battery and alternator connectors are too small for the current going through them.
3 - I think I have also seen the A/C or Fan terminal(s) melted?
4 - Also, I believe the main ignition wire(s) [Start & Run] come directly from the ignition switch and are only protected by the fusible link?
Most of the other connections are OK for the loads, but upgrading the headlights to use relays will take the load off the bulkhead connector, and headlight switches.

I'm half tempted to buy some nice Deutsch connectors and make new harnesses from scratch. I've been concerned for sometime with the wiring in this car. I had a couple tail lights out a year or two ago and after replacement I happened to grab one of the wires that ran across the driver side of the trunk and was surprised at how hot it was. I started checking other wires and found the same thing across the car in different places (many at the bulkhead). I'm sure much of this is due to poor connections but its probably time to take care of it before anything happens. The car survived a house fire back in 2018 unscathed. Probably shouldn't push my luck and just get it taken care of.

On my '69 Coronet Convertible, I found wires that were corroded (green) way up inside the wire insulation, not just near the terminal ends. I think it just is the 50 year old age of the wiring. I don't really have a problem with the bulkhead connector, I just realize what it is and its limitations.
I have been trying to figure (research) what the best options are for re-wiring the convertible. Trying to figure what will be the best bang for the buck.

Nice looking Charger! What size rear tires you running? Nice job on the EFI install, looking forward to updates once you get some miles on it.

Thank you! The tires are 275 60R 15s. I ordered them from Summit. I'll try to find the link and send them over.
