Looking for a source to "decode" the engine and transmission numbers/letters stamped on the block and transmission...eg. trans: PK3410667L30620009...I know that 3062 is the Chrysler 10,000 day calendar but don't know
the proceeding numbers are....3410 and 667 the letter "L"... is there some type of manual or website that explains all of this ?
Tks,
bob32268

1970 383-2bbl
Thanks, I already new this much, my question is what do the other numbers....(3410....667...and "L" ) stand for ? And, where can this information be found ?
Tks,

if its a 1970 shouldn't the VIN from the original vehicle be stamped onto a pad on the passenger side of the engine?

It's very light, somewhat unreadable, like someone buffed it off.... still looking for the source manual to decode all the other numbers and letters.

PK is the transmission plant. 3410667 is the trans part number. 3062 is Dec 15 1969. 0009 is the ninth trans built that day. The letter code, I thought had something to do with the calendar year the trans was built in, but I have seen exceptions after 68, and they seem to have used L for a few years before they dropped it from the stampings. 62 to 67 model years had the letter before the part number.

Thanks RT this clears up some of the confusing questions on my part...

Carl Monroe`s and Tom Hand`s Torqueflite books explain in detail.

9th 727 built that day.

is there any info about the engine numbers ?
Not in the trans books..... info regarding the engine decode is everywhere tho.... post up what you are seeing, as there are many folks here with the information.
Best of luck, Lefty71

Hello everyone, Hope you all had a good 4th of July.
I have looked for what a letter means on my sons 440 front pad.
I don't know what the T stands for, what it means. I have attached a picture for your review.

Thanks in advance

My understanding is that (for a 73) the "T" means it's a truck motor.

Later engines I.E. 74-5-6-7-8 the letters started 4T, 5T, etc. where the "J" is located on yours...... In those engines, the "T" indicates Trenton plant.

Thanks for the quick response Lefty71, where can I find that info so I can find out the difference in a truck motor.

Unfortunately i dont know the details. Probably need the factory parts book for a given year to break it down. I think the truck designation only means the medium duty trucks, but i cant be sure. It could mean torque cam, heavy con rods (6-pack) different crank, balancer and on and on.
