That's good info...I thought they didn't start the H-orange on HP blocks until '69.

I did not come up with this..... I am just copying and pasting from a web site......

Below is what I have come up with as a good start to find the correct engine color for Mopar engines from 1960 to 1973. After about 1969 they were all pretty much Blue except for a few odd balls. I have seen Slant sixes in Black in the early 60's sales brochures but those are not the best source. I have used information from the Plymouth Owner's club, Walter P. Chrysler Club and various web sites to assemble this list. Engine colors were and still are subject of much debate. It seems no one at the factory really cared about any kind of specification for paint - as long as it got painted - it was ok. These are what I have found to be considered normal or standard - if there is such a thing. Your comments are welcome - however be prepared to back up your arguments with facts from somewhere. I would hope this will be a help to those who are trying to restore their classic Mopar to as near original as possible.

The paint numbers are from Mopar Performance and may or may not be available from your local dealer.

***Note on 1969 and 1970 340LA engines - many were painted Street Hemi Orange - the list below says they all were - for any 340 engine that appears to be more orange than red - if you know it was original - then use the P4349216

****Note: I have had much discussion about the years of 1970 and 1971 the RB and B engines - two club publications say blue (Judged sheets etc.) and it appears that official Chrysler (below) says turquoise was correct. On those two years let your original color be the one to use.

I don't know where they got the info, but it is good stuff.....

This is good info for everybody guys. Think I'll give it a sticky:grin:

I'm not so sure that info is all that correct.

Can't speek for anything except the '68 383 and 440.

Turquoise on both cases regardless weather it's a HP or not.

Orange didn't go on the 383 and 440 HP till the '69 production year.

Just my .002

I agree.

There are A LOT of mistakes on that list. One of the problems with copying and pasting from a site is you run the risk of perpetuating wrong information.

tell us what the mistakes are so we will know. Like the guy who compiled it said, "Be sure to back it up with facts." If it is wrong we need to know, tell us what is wrong, and show us proof that it is. I am not trying to be smart at all, so don't take it that way. I just want to know the correct info.

I can only speak to one year. I bought a 1967 GTX brand new. I had the high performance 440 and it was turquoise not orange as stated above.

I agree with 69Runner , lets get all the facts right and edit the list.

I have personally seen two 1969 models , both with High Performance engine painted Turquoise , one was a 383 Magnum the other a 440 Magnum, but both were very early build cars, the 69 383 Bee had a 9/26/68 build date and the 69 Charger R/T had a 9/19/68 build date.

I once heard that Orange wasn't used till 1/01/1969, but I can't validate this statement, Do we have any old timers that worked for Chrysler back in the day on here that can help with this ?

Very good information for rebuilds.

So, looks like I fooked up painting my 69 318 2bbl that came out of, and going back into the same Satellite?

And here it is coming out, there's Blue in there somewhere under the crud!

Every 1969 318 that I have ever seen was Red.
