my crank is .022 closer to the cam than stock after line bore..milodon gear drive will be used on the front to set lash,,,do u guys think I need to use offset dowels for the transmission? 727..anyone ever check it..converter is a dynamic and there flex plate..bolt it up and go? and don't worry about it..rookie machinist involved.had to after studs were installed for the hughes girdle..

my concern is the transmission bearing/bushing stress..or should I be concerned at all.

426 marine block..'63 dated..2406730-1.. thanks

On a 4 speed its easy to check. Auto believe you need to have pump housing removed. The dial indicator would run on where pump housing seal rides. Just like bearing retainer hole on a 4 speed.
Whether you need to do wait for opinions. DVW is one of the go to guys on auto trans'.

If your crank is now .022" higher, you bet your sweet bippy you need to sweep the trans case. Should be done anyways even if it wasn't aligned boreded. And I'd be pissed if some rookie machinist did that to my block......

oh I'm pissed but its after the fact..and I have to deal with it..the shop has no $$ to buy it from me so..yes.if the experts could chime in it would be greatly appreaitated...and 426 marine blocks , I have no more or I would switch the internals..my trans is assembled so im going off the micrometers..on alignment...

I have mike gaines transmission here ready to go for an engine change after the last car show at the hot rods at the beach in santa cruz ca in november . and im trying to get the motor ready also...will paint the engine compartment at time of motor change.....but its 1 hurdle after another it seems with the motor...

I dialed mine in with a new block and found it out of center by .011". I used the empty case of the trans I will build for the car. I used dowels from McRobb and brought it back to specs. I machined a fixture to bolt on the crank flange and then set up my dial indicator on that. I took 4 readings at 12, 3, 6, and 9 O'clock to check. Had to read indicator through the bottom of the case-hence the empty case. One existing dowel required me to weld a nut on it to remove, the other pulled out with Vise Grips. Commercial pullers are available too.

Pretty cheap and easy to do using an empty trans case. It might be fine but why chance it.

022 or 002? That's a lot to be cut. Doubt if gear drive meshes properly after that much cut out.

Wouldn’t new bearings bring it back to spec?

If you don't want to pull the trans that you have apart, I would think using another case to check it would get you a lot closer than not doing it at all.....but man, a .022" move on the crank is a lot to not do anything and imo, you will have transmission issues.

If you machine the bearing fits upwards....short answer is no.

its a milodon full cover gear drive,u set the lash yourself...

I don't have an empty case so,,,couldn't I use a 4 speed bell housing and do the same thing? it looks like it would be easier to see the dial indicator also...
