i put new engine mount isolators on my 383 in a 68 charger. the isolators touch the engine block with basically no clearance on both sides of engine. the mount has about a 1/4” clearance. is this typical? i have double checked proper installation and all looks good. the new isolators are the new ones from source 440 which are supposed to be to oem spec and they did fit nicely. any opinions appreciated.

I've had it happen more than once. Run it like that, or take it off and clearance it with a grinder.

You can definitely do what R413 said, or you can loosen up all the bolts and shift things around until it sits the way you want, and then tighten everything down.
That's worked for me 100% of the time even with the re-popped brackets and mounts we're forced to use these days.

i have loosened all the bolts on the mounts and tried to move engine up from beneath but i guess there is little to no play on the bottom bolts caused nothing moved it just raised the front of car. i haven’t tried lifting engine from top side to see if the upper bolts might have some play. it’s tricky from the top cause it’s on my 2 post lift and no front suspension yet so not sure i can get engine hoist in position to do it. i pulled engine and transmission from bottom with the k member.
i was worried it might cause vibration if in contact with block.

The source mounts are 1 inch thick. The factory mounts are 1 1/4 thick. So they also play with the engine trans angle and can cause a vibe. Kim
