Engine puts off a lot of heat

Hi, I was just curious on this... I have a 440 RB engine and it is all finally up and running and I am driving it around. I just feel this engine emits an exorberant mount of heat. I have 2 electric coolant fans and the engine appears to stay in the 175-180 temp range, but it just seems to have a lot of residual heat coming from the engine and I wanted to know if that was normal for these engines. I do not have carpet at this time and when I touch the transmission well between the two seats it is super hot. Thanks

The engine burning the fuel is 1/3 of each of these:
Horsepower
Coolant heat
Exhaust heat

So the more horsepower it has the more heat you get.

And without carpet the floor will get hot, and how much heat from the pavement?

Big blocks produce a lot of heat.
Those temps are good.
Carpet is insulation.
Just like in North Florida in summer the pavement just makes it seem worse.

Many of the old heater core coolant valves let flow through to the core.
Exhaust ran to close to the floor pan ?
Plus the transmission itself will put off heat once up to operating temp.
A decent heat insulation on the inner firewall and floor then pad and carpet will help alot.

I installed ceramic coated headers and it made a very noticeable drop in under hood temps.

Retarded ign timing &/or lean mixture will increase temp. However, if the 175-180* temp is accurate, then that is ok. All the engine heat is being blown back onto the firewall, so it will get hot. The FW is usually painted black, which absorbs heat. Painting it silver/chrome/or alum will reflect the heat & run a little cooler.

Yes Mopar big blocks put out a lot of heat. Since your engine temps are good and you don't have any heat related issues I would not be concerned about the heat other than driver comfort. Here in the midwest we are usually driving our cars to shows on hot summer days. This makes it more uncomfortable inside the car. Eventually I plan to add an insulating product on the floor before my new carpet goes in to try to reduce interior heat. I think running with out carpet would tend to increase interior heat to some degree. Somewhere down the road I would love to add AC.
