I have a 69 RR Conv. The motor looks like its a replacement block. Maybe done when the car was new. Can anyone decode the numbers on my block?

this car has been garaged for a long time. The motor looks untouched for decades.

Here is my vin#

Any stampings on the pad up front ?
Also there is a date code casted on the Left side of the block under the head .

Are those the numbers on the side pad above the oil pan? If so a 1971 Windsor built car is what the motor is from.

it say 70

and yes thats the number above the oil pan.

could it be a replacement motor from the dealer?

The VIN number tells us the engine came from a car assembled at the Windsor plant for the 1971 model year. The engine has been replaced but it's not a replacement block.

That head is a closed chamber from '64-'67; looks like some work has been done.

Yep. 516 heads are old stock. Agreed, the block is from a 71; probably a big Chizzler.

Yep, heads are 64-67. Sounds like my 73. Original owner blew up the engine, replaced it with a short block and everything else matches except the 1978 block.
