I don't post much mostly because I don't make much progress but this weekend I plan to do a little wrenching. As an alternative to the higher priced exhaust systems out there which cost more than paying a shop to build an exhaust I ordered the header back system from Jegs in 2.5 inch and Cherry Bomb Vortex mufflers. I've never heard these mufflers or worked with Jegs branded exhaust before so we'll see how this works out. I also ordered a Jegs balance tube to tie the systems together. Maybe if this works out it can be a less expensive alternative to the other options out there.

Thanks,
I listened to samples but you never know until they are on your car. I think they'll sound good without being too loud while just cruising.

Please keep me posted, Im trying to decide on the vortex or flowtech warlock's. My glass packs are way too loud for my neighborhood.

Don't get me wrong I love the way it sounds, but at 5 in the morning it seems extra loud. That's why I like the warlock with built in cut outs. I've read they rust out quick tho is the only complaint.

Cherry bomb glass packs for me on the GTX.I might look old but i'm still young at heart.

Those old glasspacks sound good when new. The Magnaflow mufflers sound similar but use a steel packing so they don't blow out. I have them on my mustang and with the converters they are fine; with an off road pipe and no converters they are LOUD!

Maybe I should just try some new GP's then. Are you going to post a vid once your exhaust is on?

Here is a vid of my beast at idle.

THat sounds nice and healthy.

WHat type of car and engine is this going on? If it is a 440 please post a video if at all possible. I am rebuilding my engine and trying to figure out which system to go with.

Also, I have heard the warlock mufflers and they do sound very nice. No rust issues in NM it is too dry.

So the exhaust went on a fits quite well; much better than I expect actually especially over the axels. There are no rubs or bumps anywhere and the kit was complete. I had only 2 issues which I chalk up to the headers. The kit is designed for Hooker Super Comp headers. I have no idea what brand my headers are but I’ve use the hookers before and I know these aren’t them. (The headers came new with the car from the previous owner and I’m guessing Headmans) First issue, passenger side: There was very slight interference where the pipe clears the cross member. I had to lightly flatten a small section of the pipe about 1 X 1 inch. Second issue drivers side: The header pipe was about 3” too short. A quick trip to the auto parts store for a $5.99 piece of short straight pipe fixed this. I assume with the Hooker headers the exit locations are different and these problems would not occur. The 2.5” pipe is a good fit but it is tight over the axles and between the shocks. I think 3” pipe must be a real struggle to fit properly. I installed both sides then came back and cut the pipes in the straightest sections to fit a balance tube which I ordered separately from the exhaust kit. The balance tube placement is a little far back but it was the best option for fitment.
So, as for the sound, it sounds good! It has a little rumble at idle and aggressive when the engine is revved. The car can’t be driven legally but having hung many exhaust systems in the past I’m fairly confident that this system won’t be too loud while cruising. So far I’m very pleased with the entire system from the quality and fitment to the sound. I took some video with my phone but as you can expect my phone video is horrible. Hopefully this weekend the weather will clear and I can get the car out of the garage for some sound clips taken with a real camera. For anyone who wants a clip of the sound send me a PM with your email addy.

Alienmopar69, The car is a 69 GTX with a warmed over dual quad 440. By warmed over I mean it's a street engine with a bit of a cam and a few other upgrades, not a race car.

Azure,

sent you a PM as I am very interested. Sounds like your set up is very close to mine except the dual quad. Thank you.

Personally, I never liked the glass pack sound myself... sorry not meaning to offend anyone, I don't like the back rap rumble effect, when you let off the throttle especially... I've run the Delta Flow 50 series Flowmaster's for years, never had an issue & have full exhaust out the back, they are big mufflers & aren't light weight or cheap either.... to each their own, that's my $0.02 cents

I had a old chebby truck that would do the back rap, burp, and sputter thing, after i did a complete ignition tune up it stopped. I dont have a problem with my RR doing this.

I also take no offense to your comment :eusa_dance:
