Exhaust Question - 68 Road Runner 383

Hello all,

I am going to exhaust headers with 3 inch collectors on my 383. I've seen some set ups go from a 3inch collectors down to 2-1/2 inch exhaust lines, and I've seen 3inch lines come off 3inch collectors.

It seems to me that, if the collectors are 3inch, the rest of the exhaust should remain 3inch to avoid restricting flow.

Anyone have hard evidence on which way to go?

I would think that 2 1/4 would be plenty big, you do need a little restriction.
