Happy Fourth of July guys and gals. So my painter just showed me my engine bay, floor and trunk in ppg industrial epoxy primer with catalyst hardener. The lay was so good I'm just thinking about leaving the engine bay alone instead of top coating with black ppg paint. It came out really nice. This isn't a points car. It's a very nice personal car that is going to be 99k black (factory pack). Because the outside of the car is going to be black is there a issue with leaving the engine bay in medium gloss epoxy primer. The trunk looks perfect and I don't care about the floors cuz it's getting carpet and sound deadener over it. Underside will be same industrial epoxy primer. No undercoating. Car has been media blasted top to bottom. Thanks. Erik.

There is absolutely no problem at all with having epoxy in your engine bay, trunk or under the car. Epoxies actually have much better chemical resistance (oil, gasoline, brake fluid, etc) than typical topcoats. The one Achilles heal of epoxies is sunlight (they chalk & fade)....no sunlight, no problem (like in your engine bay).
