Okay finally got my driveshaft in.

I changed my diff centre from the 741 non sure grip to a 489 true trac, leftthe stock driveshaft but i did replace the uni joint with a new one, i didntknow what size i had so i bought the 2 different sizes.

the smaller one fit into my driveshaft but is too small to fit into the yoke onthe diff centre, where as the bigger uni joint i also bought does fit in thediff centre but it is too wide to fit into the driveshaft.

now what would be the cheapest option to fix this, is there a uni joint outthere that is small on one side and bigger on the other, or maybe do i need anew driveshaft or maybe a smaller yoke?

thanks guys

If your driveshaft don't fit, ya need a bigger yoke:sign17::hello2:

p.s. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

they make a u-joint that is large on one side and small on the other. i can get you the part number on wednesday. to late now. just got home from work.

I guess I can't post links being new here. On Street Legal TV dot com there's an article on an Detroit Truetrac in a 489 with Moser axles, and they mention the 7260/7290 u joint. You can get it at Napa, it's called a combination joint.

Search for eaton truetrac moser and you'll find the article

Go to DTS in Michigan all these guys do is differentials and Dana/Spicer parts. Good quality, made in USA and they know their stuff. Plus your doing a good deed for your fellow American! Buiy American where ever possible! Support your country and Military personnel.

For future reference if you work on rear ends anymore...there are 4 different yokes for the 3rd member. There's two different sizes of u-joints plus there is a fine spline and a course spline for both u-joint sizes. I don't remember the years that each were used but maybe someone here knows the breakdown if you want to know that. And it seems like you never know when they are going to be mixed. I had a 70 Challenger once that had the small u-joint at the front and a big one at the rear.

Same problem with my Dart. NAPA sells a combo universal joint don't know the part number.

"Back in the Day" before conversion U-joints were common I had this problem too & used a 57 Pontiac u-joint & switched the caps.... geez I'm getting old

I use one on my 99 Camaro with the Ford 9"..LOL

I'm not sure the original poster is too concerned with that, being in Australia and all. But I myself do try and buy USA made products.
