Factory Floor Mats?

Agree, I am beginning to wonder if the backs are original. They feel more like the same materials used in other places in the car (trunk mat was still original, gas tank pad, etc). I could see the front ones wearing out but the rear of the car was immaculate like no one ever sat back there. Even the seat covers are original in the rear seats. The front ones do have that '70 or '80 plastic and "parts store" look and feel. If I had to guess I would lean towards the back ones being original.
I agree with that.....The rear ones have the right age look.....And is a very simple....We think that they may not have wording...Similar to the column shift cars with full floor mats....In relation to the front and the rears were plain like yours...

Here is another example of vintage vs original......

For '68 Coronet A05 was the "Protection Group" that included Undercoating, bumper guards and rubber floor mats! I bet that was what it has. That said I am sure they were no frills simple designs! Cool I am going to say there is high probability the rear mats are the factory option mats!

Was there such a thing as factory (or dealer installed) floor mats for my '68 Coronet? The ones that were in the car are sort of an off white/yellowish translucent plastic with what appears to be the Coronet Crest in the middle. Was there such a thing as Chrysler Floor mats for these cars?

I don't know if this will help. This is out of the 68 accessory catalog. http://www.hamtramck-historical.com...cessories/1968/68_Accessories_Catalog0019.jpg

You may also want to check in other years for better pictures.

It is possible....Is there any numbers, writing anywhere?

Do you want me to clean these up and get some good photos for your research? You can mark them "likely original for a '68 Coronet with the A05 Coronet Protection Group option".

Was 13 when dad bought the 66 Polara it had clear plastic mats with the nubbs to hold them in place. Origanal! I have no idea at 13 who cared all I can remember was putting your shoes on the carpet was not the thing to do.
I do remember receiving in new upper end cars in the early 70's with mats bagged in the trunk. Was prepping new and used cars at the time.
More rare than optional mats anyone looked for the heavy paper mats almost all new cars were shipped with at the time?
