Many years ago I read an article about some of the late 60's and early 70's scoops that had been cut out of damaged hoods and actually welded onto early bodied cars. I'm not talking about a set of scoops from a Super Bee but something like a Shaker or Ram Charger type. They actually looked really nice...

Never heard of that

Maybe I'm not understanding what your talking about... Are you talking about the factory actually cutting & installing scoops on the cars or individuals on personal cars/projects, I've never heard of the factory doing something like that except kind of, on Very Limited # of Super Stock Cars & they were aluminum bolt-ons, installed at a different sub contractors facilities... Do you have any photos, examples, articles etc. ?, just curious...

No, guys went to bone yards and bought damaged hoods for pretty cheap. They cut out the scoop and installed it on their car, I can remember seeing some pretty nice looking hoods.

OK I get it now....

A friend cut out the center of a '70 dual scoop 'Cuda hood that had the edges bent up and grafted it into his steel pickup hood.

After it was done it looked factory!

They also did a Ford Gran Torino scoop into a '56 Ford F100 using the same method.

It's especially cool when you can integrate styling cues from other cars from the same Make (i.e. Ford, Plymouth).

Seems there was someone here, or another site that was thinking of cutting out a budge scoop from a 73-74 RR hood and fabricating it into, i believe a 73 Charger because he liked the style of them. I have seen way back some who have cut out some scoops on the older cars and putting on other ones.. Not very many but there welding skills would be rated higher then mine, which really wouldn't take much.

Saw a 68 Super Bee with a 70 Bee "pitchfork" hood grafted on.
Looked SWEEET!

Always thought 68-69 Roadrunner or DART GTS bulges would have looked good on 66-67 B bodies.

Unfortunately nothing (IMO) looks good on 68-70 Chargers.
Partially due to recessed areas.

I'd LOVE a 73-74 RR scoop for my Dakota.
It would have to be 3/4 scale, though. Not enough room. Styling is verry much a match.

I can remember seeing photos several years ago, wish I could find some...!

i am trying to find a nice hood scoop for my 69 charger need some suggestions thanks

My buddy has a '70 Cuda with a fiberglass frontend. The hood has a 6 pak scoop. Looks really cool. He's had it on there since the late '70s/early '80s. That frontend came from the old Ramchargers speed shop in CA. I've seen old school drag car pics of Cudas with the same frontend.

IF I were going to do any hood scoop on a 68-70 Charger it would be the one like on the second picture of the Landy car with the 69 six pack looking hood. However I don't think there is ANYTHING you can do to improve the silouette of a 68-70 Charger. Also the cars roof line was just made for a vinyl top. it is one of the few old muscle cars that looks out of place without a vinyl top.
Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I agree, it's pretty much impossible to improve the lines of the 68 / 69 Charger.

This is bad-***.............

Not only is it bad *** but the engineering effort is impressive as well. Note the installation of four vertical supports to keep the scoop from ballooning at speeds in excess of 150 MPH.

Not terrible-
