I'm looking for suggestions and experiences with how to best restore faded and dried up interior trim pieces. I'm talking about when you run your nail over the plastic trim it scratches off powder. My local shop that dyes them says they cannot be dyed as they will probably just flake off.

I'd like to sand them and glue on good vinyl. Its nearly impossible to find better replacements. Any suggestions?

I would say: YES
YOU CAN FIND REPLACEMENTS...
1. Car?
2. What year?
There are plenty of Mopar cars and parts around.
Shop around, be vigilante
I search Craigslist everyday looking for Gremlin/hornet trim pieces...all over the country.

Do your homework and you will be rewarded.

If there chalky, there decinigrateing dew to bakelite material. Covering in vinyl will work but id be gentle on um, or cover in fiberglass resin... Works for me.
