When you tighten your fan belts, the v-notch type, including the ones to your alternator and ac and power steering, do you tighten them when the engine is hot or cold or does it matter.

What say you?

More importantly, get a tension checking tool such as a Browning #1302546, learn how to use it for best accuracy and least uneeded wear on bearings. As far as temperature, I would assume hot tension is more important than cold.

I don't like doing anything on a hot engine, except to check the oil. I don't like burned knuckles and stuff!

It doesn't have to be smokin hot. Just a minute or two is all the belt needs.

Never thought about is, so I've most likely always done it on a cold engine.
