Classic advertises a 62-72 PS gearbox with 2 1/2 turns, and standard. Is a fast ratio possible for my 63?
Also, what does the steering ratio mean, eg 15,7:1?
The fast ratio box is probably a Borgeson unit. Bergman auto craft is your best source if you want to go this route. They are a vender on this site. The ratio is a theoretical number for the amount of turns of the steering shaft for one turn of the pitman arm. A 16 to 1 would be four turns of the wheel for a 90 degree sweep of the pitman arm.
Steer n Gear in Columbus Ohio rebuilt my power steering box with a more modern feel, a great improvement. Firm Feel can do the same for yours, I believe that they are on the west coast. I’ve never drove one with that quick of a ratio, I’d be worried that it would be a little twitchy at speed on the highway.
Fast ratio on the stock Mopar box is realized from longer Pittman and idler arms. Fast ratio box would be the Borgeson unit. As stated above, getting one from BAC[ Peter Bergman] is the best place to get it. You'll get ALL OF THE NEEDED COMPONENTS when you buy it from him. Putting the Borgeson box is straight forward but not a slam dunk without all the needed pieces.
