favorite and least favorite mopar

Chrysler pioneered the small, front-drive car, that everybody copied/builds these days. I've had a half-dozen K-cars for beaters, and they were very reliable and cheap transportation. I beat the hell out of them, even jumping them on rolling hills property...and they just came back for more. They all died horrible deaths, at my hands. Only my 99 Caravan was a better beater.
I'd have to say that Minis pioneered transverse front drive in 50's. Morris first then Austin. I had a 63 Morris Mini Cooper 998 S, dry suspension that had a 66 Austin Cooper 1275 S drive line......the Real Minis. Very fast little car.

The 68 to me is the favorite, 61 Plymouth the least. I saw my first 68' in Oct of 67'.
I was working my dad's gas station, and I was 15. We were closing up, and a copper and white 68 Charger with Intransits flew in. The guy jumped out, and threw me a 10 spot, and yelled to me to fill it up. He left the car running, and it was a Hemi. He was quite in a hurry, and said keep the change! He said "the sirens you hear are chasing me." I was in Detroit this Morning, and am heading to Colorado"! I thought, sure, sure. he blasted off, and not 30 seconds later The Iowa Highway patrol, Nebraska, and Omaha police flew by the station. Love at first sight!
Absolutely true story, Ethyl was 31.9,so I had a whole three dollar tip!(I made .65 cents an Hour, so 3 bucks was a Bunch! I bought my first 68' in 1974, and have owned at least one at a time

ever since!

Sounds like Kowalski!

Like:
1) B bodies up to and including '72
2) C bodies '70 up to and including '73 (particularly like Fury I cop cars with 440)
3) E bodies up to and including '72
4) A bodies '69 up to and including '73

Least like:
1) All FWD concoctions
2) R bodies
3) F bodies

You can go back to the Cord, if you'd like. But none have any relevance to the mopar thing.

Cord isn't transverse. A lot of Cord 812 replicas were 440's. I'm pretty sure mini was 1st transverse/sideways layout....Lambo Muira is mid transverse.

People didn't care about small cars and gas mileage. Big/super-charged motors were the ****. My grandparents had a Cord. They all learned to drive in it, out on the farms in the Saginaw Mi. area. My grandma hit a tree with it. As far as modern stuff....it's meant to haul people, and they got very large. My wife's 02 Intrepid, was probably the best new car we've ever owned. It's a much nicer car than her Charger. If they offered both today....I'd buy another Intrepid. Nobody wanted or cared about the old micro-cars...until the left started making the rules with the EPA, forcing the auto-makers to build **** nobody wants. Most people still hate them.

I like the 'cab forward' mopars such as the Intrepid, the 300. Good looking cars too, better looking than contemporary Charger by leaps.
Yep, cars today are boat anchors in spite of all the plastik. My 68 post Coronet, 318, was 3200 lbs dry....a C-7 Corvette is 3200 lbs. WTF?! A 63 6 cyl Falcon is 2395 lbs. Ridiculous. I thought the Mangusta was on heavy side @ 2950 lbs. Give me old skool any day.....I hate plastik.

But that boat anchor can do high 14s with that crap V6 at that weight just like that 318 Coronet. Well, my uncle's did with Dynomax muffler and a rigged CAI.

Today's engines are impressive as hell, but I can't stand the way cars are built....there won't be anything left to restore in 30 years......I want METAL.

3200 lb B body? I'm calling bullshit on that!

I'd be impressed if it is true. I can only imagine a slanty-3 speed-drum brake-heater & radio delete car with 14x5 wheels and bicycle width tires!

Well, I like all the 50's and 60's Mopars. I'm no longer a big fan of the 68 and newer Chargers or the 69 and up fuselage styled cars. I thought they were wonderful back in the day but now I realize these cars emphasized styling over function. The front overhang of the 68 up Chargers is just for styling; the older cars were more concerned with practicality instead of looks.

Here's my short list of favorites starting with my current favorite:

67 GTX Love everything about the car, styling, performance, comfort
63 Plymouth B bodies
65 Coronet and Belvedere
66 and 67 B bodies
65, 66 and 67 Valiant and Barracuda
66 and 67 C bodies

I'm not a fan of the E bodies and I don't really care for any of the 70's or newer cars.

& figure a new Challenger is around 4500. Good old all metal B bods ain't that heavy. All three of my B bods were 318, 727 AT

A Challenger Hellcat is 4480! Our 2015 R/T is supposed to be 4150.
All that wiring, computers, sound deadener, speakers and safety stuff add up!

Coronet on the scale in Vegas was 4050. With me in it, and luggage and beer in cooler. I go almost 200. Attached wrong picture.

Close enough.
I haven't weighed the Charger since making several changes. I have to be near 4000 lbs though. I wonder how the Coronet is so much lighter?

Aluminum bell housing, TTI headers. The squat actually changed when those 2 modifications happened. Not sure how much lighter the TKO is vs the A833. Still feels like a Whale compared to that ragtop in the photo above.
