About a week ago at the last of the one Friday car cruise I go to some guy was giving me an ear beating and proceeded to tell me about the pentastar on the bottom of the fender which I know its there but I didn't know it had a specific meaning ...according to this guy the regular silver pentastars were for normal cars the gold stars were on the High performance cars ....Is there any truth to this if so what was the cutoff performance wise to switch from silver to gold

I've been messing with MoPars for a long time and never heard that story. I've seen a lot of fender pentastars and seems to me they were all gold on the early cars. Some of the late model luxury liners got glass or clear plastic ones.

Now here is an interesting fact you can tell that guy. Towards the end of the Sunbeam production Chrysler owned a significant portion of the company, so all the late Tigers you see should have a pentastar on the right fender. I believe Chrysler was planning a major redesign of the car, mainly to accommodate the 273 4 BBL engine, but it never materialized. Don't believe me? Was there an exact location behind the front wheel to put the pentastar?

He's full of bullshit. Unless you're telling me my '65 is high performance. 4 door, slant 6, 3 speed auto Belvedere II. Maybe it differed from year to year, or models. For example belvie II vs. I.

performance level star colors...never seen but gold till they reintroduced them much later in silver with the newer cars and also the aforementioned clear plastic units...as for the Sunbeam Tiger...I have a very early 65 no star, I have a 66 with the star..I wish my Jensen Interceptor had a star on it but other than contract to supply the drivetrain, they had no controlling interest in Jensen..

The silver pentstar is the Werewolf based design team...
The gold pentstar is the Vampire based design team...
Both teams fell under the Occult/Satanic "evil-empire" design bureau Auburn MI.

Hes one of the guys with a new challenger than since I have a new mopar Im now one of you guys and Im a car person

wow! you have an Interceptor?? is it a II, III? I love those cars...

They a unique car...thanks..its a III Series 4 with 440/727/3.07 posi-trac and before some jump and say "sure grip"..it's a Salisbury rear gear...aka English Dana variant...as the Tigers have also, rear axle was not part of the Jensen/Chrysler deal it seems..but thanks goodness the electronic ignition, TQ carb, alternator and electronic regulator, PS pump and AC compressor etc is all Mopar with Jensen cast aluminum valve covers.. I am a Mopar man but still like some of the English sports..barn full of them...lol

I have always believed that the Pentastar is located on the Passenger side of the car - ie/ right hand side for left hand drive cars (USA, Canada) and left hand side for right hand drive cars - Australia, New Zealand, UK etc.

Funny about the stars though... a car show here a few years ago created a lot of laughs....found several cars with no Pentastar (some of those had the bondo worm inside the fender) several like my own were correct, and one guy even had a star on each side - covering his bets with the panel-beater I guess. :icon_pidu:

The Pentastar on the fender was started part way through the year of 63. Early 63's did not have them.

Englishness

A Mark III, very nice!!! it's all big block MoPar to me! it has the heart of a MoPar, but in an English suit. lol

a barn full of Engilshness, eh?? PM me...

Tallhair..The Jensen is getting a couple dings worked out as I get a minute her and there and I will eventually spray a bit of color. (Tangerine is the original color) Thank goodness it is as rust free as any car I have seen, low mileage original that has been on blocks with the wheels off for many years. It is not a forefront project at the minute and would not be a good time to start a thread as my attention on the car is going to be at best sporadic. I am close to putting in the last of the metal on a car for a friend and at the same time real close on completing my '48 Plymouth Bz Cp with complete modern Mopar running gear/electronic including body controller, SRS and ABS brakes, AC and all other accessory upgrades and revamped interior all from the donor vehicle. I vow to finish these prior to getting deep into another project. For now, just collecting parts for my projects is rainy day/after hour quiet time activity.
