Looked at a Road Runner a buddy bought recently.
The car is a 69 RR, 383 & 4 speed car with 8.75 rear housing.
One of the codes on the fender tag is A-31 (3.91 sure grip).
But the car only has a 22" radiator opening.
For some reason I thought when you got the track pack A-31 option, you got the big radiator and Hemi suspension.
I know with Mopars, you never say never for options, but is this correct rear gear set up for his car?
OK experts, let me know your thoughts.

A31, where is it located? If it is on the second line up just right of center is the scheduled build date.

If it is on the third line up it is an axle pkg.

Yup... Could be an axle code & if so it should 100% have a 26" radiator... Or it could be the scheduled production date A31 = October 31st 1968... The codes location will tell you which it is....

That would apply to St, Louis or LA built car.

The car could also be a Lynch Road car with only the A31 SPD on the bottom line of the tag.

It is the axle code, that was the reason for my question. Is it possible to have the A-31 3.91 axle ratio with a 22" radiator?

C16 twice.

Not possible for Axle pkg and 22" rad. Show this tag please. Is it a bogus tag? they are out and about.

What if the A31 is not on the fender tag but it's on the BS instead as a Combination Group code? Specifically for a 70 Super Bee. Then it's a Track Pack, right?

:xscuseless:

It's more likely to be a Halloween car. The A31 code sounds like a co-incidence if the car is a 383 with an OE 22" radiator.

I’m thinking that a 383 car with an a 3.91 would be a High Performance axle package and not a Track Pack option. A car with the Track Pack option would have a 3.54 Dana amongst other things.

The SuperBee that I bought new in 1969 was a 383, automatic coupe with factory 3.91 gears. This package included SureGrip, 26" radiator and shroud with clutch fan. Hemi suspension was also part of the deal.

Yup, my 383 Superbee (1970) auto, AC car came with the Heavy Duty 26 inch "Hemi" radiator too...heavy duty cooling...

Do you have the broadcast sheet to back this up?

A/C cars have a 26" 2 core rad, 2998961
HD cooling is a 26" 3 core rad. 2998956

The car could have both A/C and HD cooling, they are separate options. A/C does not mean HD cooling.

The 1970 Plymouth service manual has a full page chart on which engines and options have what radiator
Interesting reading page 7-12

I'm pretty sure you are the same person with which we covered this topic on Facebook....

A31 will not be called out specifically like a St. Louis our LA tag. The Axle package is reflected the the axle assembly code on a Lynch Road tag.
If it was A31 and a Super Bee, that means it's a 383 car which means it could not be an A33 or A34 track pack/super track pack car. Those two packages would be for 440 and Hemi cars only.

The example I have shows E63+D32+H51 = 61 radiator. Is this what you have? This is what is indicated in the service manual chart posted.
I show the 56 radiator for Hemi and other HD cooling applications for 1970.
