File fit rings.

LMAO! there's that chebby word again! gunna stock up on ammo but dam people bought it all out already....

Chevy compared to MOPAR ----> :eek:ld_school:

I just got off the phone with speed pro and they do offer a standard ring pre gapped for these pistons. They then went on to say that for file fit they recommend on a moderate performance engine 4 thousandths per inch of bore on top ring and 5 thousandths on the second. On higher performance and nitrous they said to add 1 thousandths to each.

too each his own, your not the only experienced machinist/engine builder on this board. he asked a simple question, will file fit moly rings work in my 440, i get the impression this is a mild street engine. the answer is yes they will work!!! what do blown big block chevys and 9000rpm boat motors have to do with what he asked???

*you're*

Trying to illustrate the varied functionality and importance of ring end gap and using different examples to do so. Some people like to actually learn theory and understand why things do what they do, not just read some unilateral post on someone's closed opinion of how something should be done.

I have not even gotten into his cylinder wall finish and whether it is conducive to a moly or cast ring...

The man who derives a question from an answer comes away the smartest from a conversation.

Yep,,, That's what I was saying about different gaps for different applications.... Once again, I used Hastings rings "I just like them" and followed there charts for gap settings....
If you do use them,,, make sure you fit them square down in the cyl bore when measuring, and keep them organized to that cyl only once your done filing them..... Dont mix them up with another bore... It's just good practice to keep things matched up...
Good luck with your build!!!!
Of course we will need pictures too!!!!!

A good way to square the ring in the bore for measuring is to flip a piston over, and use it to push the ring down to square it up.... try to go the same depth each time too..
