Hi, I recently bought a 69 Charger and am trying to figure out any information I can on it. No build sheet and the fender tag is too far gone to read. It was gutted by the time I got my hands on it. Bought from a kid in Ohio who got it in Kentucky. Is there a way to find out build information from just the vin like original paint color, motor, trim/interior packages etc.?

If you can post up some good HD images of the fender tag anyway .. some of our resident photo restoration experts may be able to do something with it to get some info for you

Sometimes you can still make out the codes by looking at the backside of a rusted fender tag.

Great point Elk so post both sides and maybe try doing a pencil rubbing bassvamp

Also shot in the dark, post what you know, the VIN, what original colors int/ext appear to be and maybe someone will recognize it

There is several websites where if you punch in your vin it will give you information about your car. Just go to google and type in decoding charger, I'm sure several of these sites will come up.

Thanks for the help. Turns out it is just a basic charger. XP29F9B1. As far as the fender tag goes, its rusted out in several spots and in 3 or 4 separate pieces if my memory serves me right. I'll try and snap some pictures this weekend anyway and get them up here though.

The only thing interior wise left when I got it were the doorpanels so I'm guessing black interior. Current color of the car is a gold, but underneath the gold and Bondo (car looks like it may have been in a front and rear end collusion) is B5 blue and there is also some green on the steering column. Vin number is XP29F9B125759. Kentucky owner's name was Charles Schulkner I think.

good news is, you have a charger! The Interiors were all the same in 69, unless you got an SE. then you saw some leather. If the car is apart, sometimes the overspray is behind the kick panel, and under the speaker tray, and down low you may see some. Look under your door hinges, and underneath, where the engine compartment cowl is welded to the front floor. After that, if the car is gold, you only have about five Interior color choices!LoL

hopefully these will suffice. picked out what ones seemed to be the clearest. I can make out an R11, 715, Y4, C55, 21, and the 25759 from the VIN.

Bottom line: E44, D31, XP29 F9B 125759
Next line: Y4 Y4 C6? (You said the interior had some black. If yes, then C6X is likely. Possibly C5X) ?? (If interior is black then X9) 902(? on the 2. Could be a 1 SPD) 0(?)60(?)713 (VON number)
Next Line: C16 or C21 (Unknown. Does the car have a buddy seat or console?) C55, G15, M21, M31, R11
END

Console. Is there a book or something that has a breakdown of all the codes? I'm new to the whole resto process and grew up in a Chevy family.

Yikes, that one is bad. How is the rest of the car? We might have a resto rivaling Don's coming up lol.

Rest of the car is just as bad haha. Pretty much everything but the drivers door and roof need to be replaced. Both front frame rails are rusted through, back ones look like they had been cut in half and welded back together, sail panel and deck filler are rusting out, trunk floor and passenger side quarter panel are gone.... got the car with a big block trans and 70 bucket seats.... I'll post up some pics of the car.

That's what we call rough where I come from and most from other places would call all of the cars here rough so use that as a gauge :)

Oh yeah, she needs a little more than a hug. I've always wanted a 69 Charger though and felt that she needed to be saved. At this point my plan is to basically make an R/T clone since the car seems to be as plain jane as you could've gotten. Bought a 1970 440 6 pack with '64 Max Wedge heads that I'm going to rebuild and slap in it. I know I could've bought one already restored for what I'm going to put into it, but where's the fun in that? lol.
