Just like the title says, here's a little post I made about my new tires and wheels.

Getting a little rub on more aggressive left hand turns, not anything too crazy, but pretty consistent rub. Cant tell yet where on the tire it's rubbing, and I want it to stop.

Thinking about new rear leafs, Its already up on shackles (only one hole up) but i'd love for it to be on springs only, and have a nice stiff ride in the back, and no rubbing anywhere if I do ever want to carry 5 people in the car. It might happen. I plan to drive this thing around town, and maybe take it to the strip once in a blue moon.

Loving the look of the wheels, and the badass-ness of having four new tires. Haven't been able to take it up to freeway speeds. It used to vibrate at around 70, I'm hoping the fresh wheel balance helps.

without any signs of wear on the tires it will be hard to tell when it's rubbing. Maybe do a couple of turns in a way that makes the tire rub, then stop and get someone to put their hand on the tire to feel out the hot spot. You won't need to go hard out just enough to make the tire a little warmer than the rest of the tire. Without the wear pattern it's all guess work for now :)

If it's anything like mine, it will be toward the rear of the tire where the outer lip comes closest. Mine doesn't rub but ANY closer and it will.

Thats the plan. I'll get a good chance to drive it this weekend. There isn't any trick to seeing where it's rubbing? Maybe something to mark the tire or inner fender with?

I love the way they look man, when I parked the car and walked away, I had to walk backwards cause I was busy looking at the wheels. hahah :headbang: http://imgur.com/XL5DQot

This is where my last set of tires rubbed. The offset looks like it would fix that, I'm concerned that some side roll and sidewall flex could bring it too close to the leaf springs. I'm probably just being paranoid.

You could try using chalk, put heaps on the area where you think the tire is rubbing. (on the tire itself). Having a friend to spot check may help too. They do look good though.

Put something on the tire that will transfer to the part it is rubbing. Drive it and check for the transfer mark.

by your pic it would almost have to be the leaf springs at the inner side wall.any place else would indicate a lot of body roll.is there a clean spot on the springs?

Not yet, but only drove it around the block. It does feel like it rolls quite a bit.

If it is rubbing on the leaf spring, what can I do about it, besides turn more carefully?

You can buy offset sprin hangers for some cars. Move the springs inboard. Get new wheels with less backspace. I have BF Goodrich 295/50R15 and 5.5 backspace with stock spring hangers and springs. Lots of clearance. I think the M/T runs a little bigger for the same size.

maybe use a thin shim/spacer behind the wheel, move it out some if it's on the inside

Are spacers safe? I might have some sitting around from when I had some slots on there. If it;s on the inside, that couldbe a cheap easy solution.

Usually cheap+easy does not = Safe. I will defer to experience though.

iPadJune30,2013 164.jpg 295/50 15's on 15x8 Rallyes. 69 Coronet. Lots of room. Could have gone 305's. Coopers. 68 to 69 wheelhouses that much different or is it the 8 inch rims? We put them on my friends 68 Barracuda and they barely rubbed on the outside on turns.

Depends on how many turns of the wheel nut you can get with the spacers and wheel on together. 2 and half turns is legal here in NZ

What was the offset of your wheels? Mine are 5.5 inch. 305s sound awesome.

Was at the dodgers/red sox game last night, kind of hung over right now. Going to cruise later and see what i can tell about the rubbing. Ill take a good look around today.

Thanks for the info everybody!

Go dodgers!

spacers are safe as long as they are very thin.if you are only rubbing on turns a 1/8 inch shim should do the trick and not cause any rubbing on the outside lip.as stated above, make sure you get about three full turns of the lug before tightening if you use them.

Thanks for the post, I have a 67 Coronet with 275s, an 8" wheel and 4" offset, nice to know I can go wider if need be.

I have often wondered about that. Thanks! tiphat_zpsd31ae088.gif

So I drove the car for about two hours, normal street driving. Turning whenever possible and convenient. Only got it to rub a couple of times, and those times were only when I really threw it into a left hand turn... I have a feeling its body roll, and it sound like the tire is rubbing on the top part of the Right rear fender well when I make a good left.

The leaf springs in the back are a weak link, they're one of the few items I haven't replace, so I'm going to pick some up.

I don't mind the stiff ride in the back. It's not going to be a daily driver.

I don't want to use shackles anymore. RIght now, this is how my car sits. http://imgur.com/9Lp54Kv

Its only on the first hole in the shackle, From looking at this pic, it still seems to be giving an awful lot of lift.. . . http://imgur.com/2sGy5zo

What's the stock arrangement? Is there a shackle in there stock?

If I wanted to lift the back a little higher than it is now, to clear that right rear fender, and to stiffen up the suspension the back, which would be the best springs to get?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

get the mopar performance xhd springs and it should solve your problem.there are factory shackles, but they are not adjustable.why not move your shackles down 1 hole and see if your prob goes away?at least it would be free to check it.the xhd springs will lift the rear a bit as well.

You make a good point. Free to check.
I'll try that, I am in a hurry to get rid of the shackles for no reason, and haste makes waste. At least I would know if it could be solved with spring height, as opposed to the spacers dealie.

Thanks for the idea!
