HI,
I have a 1975 Fury 318 with automatic. I think I'd like to go to a floor shifter. I have a bench seat (want to keep that,, I think,, car is a 2 door). I think I need the long handle Pistol grip?? like the 4 spd's use?? Or is there a regular pistol grip that well work with the bench seat??
am I doomed to having to put in buckets??

Thanks take care
tim

I think you want the long 71-74 b body bench seat pistol.
Do you want this to mate with the automatic lol?

Not all shifters are created the same... a manual shifter is not going to work with a auto trans, completely different devices. Now I am sure some enterprising hotrodder could come up with something but this is not a "bolt in" situation.

If you want to keep your bench seat you are going to need to look into something from the hotrod world like Lokar who makes all sorts of shifters for auto trans. You could put in any manner of after market AT shifters but most are designed to be mounted between buckets but I have seen many B&M type shifters mounted on the floor in front of a bench seat as well.

Nothing is going to be "bolt in", this is going to require some degree of fabrication. Even if you went to buckets there is some work ahead of you.

Its your car, but I would recommend staying with the shifter on the column unless you can find a similar car that has buckets and a floor shifter and get all of it or at least the shifter stuff, you could use a wide array of buckets out there.

I think it would be pretty easy to get the appropriate pistol grip bench seat lever and adapt it to one of the cheap Mr. Gasket/Indy universal automatic floor shifters.

Why not just stab in an A833 with a real shifter, why jerry rig it?
This^ you can go with one of the 3+1,4 speed overdrive transmissions and get better mileage too. They are cheap, and fairly easy to acquire. They will bolt right in to the car, provided the setup came from a 318 or 360 powered car or truck. However 360 engines used a different balanced flywheel. The correct balanced flywheel for a 318,neutral balanced will be needed. A 71 and up bench seat pistol grip shifter, rods and mounting bracket will bolt right in and work perfectly with your bench seat. You will need 71 and up 4 speed pedals and linkage and the torque arm bracket to weld onto the drivers side frame rail.
