Lionel Trains Prewar Postwar For Sale

Some nice Lionel Trains for sale in NJ, not mine

The trouble is that no one under the age of 65 has any interest in toy trains. A friend just sold his collection of Lionel trains via a local auction house & it all went for went for fire sale prices. He told me that the high point for Lionel trains was 10 years ago and prices have just been going down since.

You’re absolutely correct on the pricing. Unfortunately most sellers still think their items are worth their weight in gold.

I don’t have BookFace (a friend sent me the link) but you never know.
The 773 Hudson’s and Virginian FM’s would make a nice addition to my collection.

It’s a tough decision between spending money on a Demon 170 or a 773…..

I wouldn’t mind a road trip to NJ, either way!

Trains, we moved from Ohio to Florida in the mid fifties as work was hard to find. All our belongings were packed in wooden crates, take to the train station and shipped by a company called "Rail Way Express". We then moved to Kentucky, where I saw a steam train pulling a long line of hopper cars, full of coal. We returned to Ohio, where I saw a small round house, with several rusty steam locos lined up in a yard, destine for the scrap yard. We had a live steam club here in town that had a mid sized engine and a mixed lot of passenger cars, that set up a Sunday excursion, traveling five miles out and reversed the five miles back. They moved our of town, but disbanded eventually. Below is a google search on several museums in Ohio.

I know the UK had "Belpaire" fireboxes on some of the locos there, but that sure looks like PRR loco on that test rig.

That's fascinating, I had no idea there was such a test station. And I found a video of that same dyno in operation.

There is a two book series on the "dieselization" process the PRR went through, complete with extensive testing figures and correspondence giving a "front seat" view into what the executives were thinking at the time.

It really doesn't present too dryly, either.
The author has done a great job assigning "main character" roles not only to people, but to locomotives and builders.

I highly recommend it.
