Memory lane, I was just able to afford to race right when they shut it down.

Great video (even if it says Super Chevy Sunday). I spent some time on that track in my 68 RR back in the 80's. It was the first track I raced on and would visit it during my HS years until it closed on a Wed night. I have one of those jackets like the guy is wearing but it's a reissue. I also know the guy in that other post who took the pics of what it looks like today. I bought my green Belvedere from him! Yep, the world is still small.

Bigman Thanks, I remember it very fondly... Raced there allot.. The fasted track on the West Coast, much of the Fuel Altered's History was born there... I Raced there from 1974 till the day they closed, I attended many races in the mid-60's to early-70's with my step father Bob, long before I was able to drive... Many a Saturday test & tune sessions too... I was at the last SCTA Nostalgia Drag Race & the last Northern Nationals NHRA Race there too... Georgia Siple {spelling?} was the track manager, she went to Sears Point... Chet was the starter... Robbie was the track go-fer/jack of all trades guy, ran test & tunes.... 2 deaths, 1 at the Dirt Track & 1 at the Drag Strip, a Widow of 1 of the guys killed, had a wrongful death lawsuit against them... Mainly because when they repaved the track, they piled all the debris just past the catch net & her husband Bob March had a problem in a 7.90 SE car, I think throttle stuck, his chute was deployed kind of late, but it didn't slow it down fast enough & drove thru the catch net, car folded up badly, after stretching the net & killed him... Then Brent Davis getting crippled, in his father "Jim Davis's" old Nostalgia T/F Dragster, caused many of the latter financial, liability, insurance & track issues, also their early demise, it stood vacant for many years afterwords, I haven't been back for along time now....

I remember the Hayward Drag Club gang! Damn Bigman, you get bonus points for this post!

Interesting read. I also raced at Fremont every Sunday for many years from about 1970 to the early 80s. Worked for Gotelli Speed Shop back then. BTW, Ron Nichols still races an Oldsmobile in Super Street and brackets at Sears Point, and Georgia is still the track manager. Thanks for the memories...

I remember the name Ron Nichols. Also Steve Parish who is still racing his 55 or 56 Chevy wagon with Chrysler running gear. I used to also see the Munn's root beer special Olds at Fremont. This was the car from the movie Hot Rod and belonged to Taggart I believe.

Back in 09' I was in SSF and stopped by Gotelli Speed Shop it's still there and open lol nice place, When I bought my 69 RR it came with a bag of receipts and one of them was from Gotelli's some part can't remember but on the back was a list of 383 and 440 block code numbers, I am guessing who ever the original owner was talking to the counter guy was telling him which block would be the best to find in a junk yard. The date on this receipt was around 87'

Growing up in SL in remember hearing those names all the time Ron Nichols and Steve Parish. In the 80's all we had in the east bay was the Super Shops on E 14th and Vic Hubbard's in Hayward, who always seemed over priced. I built my first SB with parts from the Super Shops It was like a candy store I used to walk in there in amazement of all the parts and they had a tire shop which my neighbor across from got his start lol

yep small world indeed I am just one gen north of you guys missed most of the good stuff, got stuck with crack heads trying to jerry rig chevelle's and 442's.

Still pissed to this day missed a 68 charger I missed buying by seconds, I'll never forget a primered up tore up interior 440 4 speed charger for $1100 saw it on the way home from work one day raced home to tell mom to spot me the money called the guy and heard "sold" would have been my first car. Kid in a grade above me got it earl shcib'ed it gloss black and took me for a ride, all I remember is doing 90 in first gear. was so sad I missed that car. Wish I knew where is was today.

East Bay Speed Shops

:iamwithstupid: Good old Vic Hubbards {& Tognotti's Auto World in Sacramento} both stops before heading to the race tracks, my early racing sponsors, for Drag Racing & Sprints, Torco oil, Methanol & Champion spark plugs from Vic Hubbards, parts discounts from Tognotti's, Machine work from Morgans Speed & Marine or Tri-Valley, Monument Auto Supply in towns in the East Bay would cut me a decent deal too... We had a couple of smaller & usually privately owned speed shops, in the East Bay, Walnut Creek Ca. was Morgans Speed Marine, Bailey Brothers in Napa/Sonoma Ca., Super Shops in Sonoma Ca., Vic Hubbards in Hayward Ca., Parnelli Jones Good Year in Castro Valley Ca. {for my slicks}, personally delt with him, those were a couple of the more noteable ones, there was a small chain store in Concord Ca. too, I don't/can't remember the name now, next to Buzzy Bee's slot car & Hobby shop & Diablo Muffler "NO muff to tuff", a few people I knew worked there at the local speed shops... I worked for Monument Auto Supply in Pleasant Hill & Antioch Ca. for a couple of summers, when I was in school... good old memories

That speed shop in Concord Ca., was my 1st place I purchased an aftermarket, Norris Camshaft Kit, also a Edelbrock Torker Intake, 850 DP Holley, Hooker Headers, for the 440 in my 1st 68 Charger R/T... awh the memories
