justin, you are a mopar phenom.your attention to detail and by the part numbers is very rare, this hobby is not dying with people like you still in it. thanks
Johnny,

You say phenom but I am just an average working guy with a set of craftsman/kobalt tools, no lift, no unlimited budget and several sets of jack stands. Building a car at my little garage in Dallas. Showing that ANYONE with the time, patience and mechanical skills can build a car like this in the privacy of their own home. Of course there is a money factor but is there any restoration that does not factor that into play....

There are others that have built cars like this in the same manner as me and they have my highest respect! For those they deserve recognition as well....

Back to the phenom word. My wife says crazy, lol....Although, she was in the house when it fired and while watching her favorite show she came out there in a hurry, high five, said great job, awesome and I am so happy or you....Guess I rubbed off on her a bit....before meeting me 19 years ago she was not into cars, that changed....

Thank you very much for the compliment, Johnny....I also appreciate the time you take out of your day to follow my thread...

keep in mind without you also proves the hobby is alive....

Just for curiosity, what did your bone stock 440 Dyno out at?
it had a mild upgrade on the cam......and a 3 angle valve job with hardened seats, port and polish...it was nothing shocking it was 402 to round it out....Keep in mind it had the stock carb and they attached their headers to it.....So if the rockers, carb, intake and headers were upgraded it would be a lot higher....Probably in the 460 range....but that is a guess...

Justin, congrats on your first start up! She sounds awesome and looks even better. You have done an amazing job putting her back together.... Just wow!

Getting very close indeed....Depends on getting the seats and rear bumper back at this point...

Sounds great Justin! You make the first start up look so easy...I've watched too many shows that cut to commercial right at this point because it doesn't light right off! Lol

Or the ones that have the timing a 180 off:realcrazy:, lol.....

Thanks but 99% of the credit goes to Dave Broadnax for breaking in, tuning and running it daily for awhile.....I would give him a 100% but I did put everything in the car and hooked everything back up.....

I talked to Dave tonight, I fessed up told him I started it up and he said, "I already figured that you would have done that." Lol....

I had no worries when I did the first start up. Between Daves hands and my hands on the motor...Then check, double check, triple check...video proof my friend!

That engine sounds good and looks even better. You sure do make it look easy the way it bumped to life with a tap of the key. It is all in the prep and you worked hard to get to this point for sure. Congrats!

Thanks my friend! You nailed it and it is all in the prep and doing your system checks. My biggest enemy in all my builds is electrical and once I made it through that hurdle. I was ready to rock at that point....

I was wondering which carburetor you are using? I see the dual idle mixture screws. For my 69 R/T 4 speed I come up with 4617s. When looking for correct date code, it shows a single center mixture screw. Later replacement carbs are dual mixture screws. Is yours a modified original? I would prefer the dual idle screws myself yet was looking for correct date code.

The carb is dated C9 4617SA with original tag....this was the carb that was on the car when purchased in 93. I am not sure what your finding, this car is a 69 not a 68. Can you present where your information is from via a picture?

Page 28 Post #548 explained this very well if you prefer to take the time to go back.....

The 4617sa i believe is a replacement carb. There is a carb on Ebay right now. L8 4617s might be the right one for your car. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-440-Carter-AVS-Carburetor-manual-transmission-part-4617S-/132058554471
This is what I love about this forum.....people willing to chime in.....

69b3rt you are 100% correct....I just got off the phone with a carb expert and he confirmed exactly what you said....The SA is a replacement carb, the c9 could be 69 or 79 due to it being a replacement carb. The ad you listed above is so close it is not even funny but my search has been for a J/K8 4617S....I always thought that changed from 68 model year in 69 and all 69's had no air bleed and 2 mixtures screws(the 68 has mixture screws behind the lead pop outs on the base)...but it changed mid stream but no definite when...

To this day I have had no luck on the search but still searching at least now thanks to you my friend. I know exactly what I need other than just a number and a date:thumbsup:

Thats the thing about early builds they all have some oddities....

The gent who broke in and tuned the motor was tied up this week and will be over next week to do a check over prior to start up....Remember this motor was dyno and tuned prior to putting the motor in the car...I would NOT do it any other way it saves time, money and headaches....

So when I got the motor back I had to pull the distributor, carbs, plugs etc...in order to prep and paint the motor. I marked the distributor and block with a small dab of white paint and later touched those spots up once installed again....The gas was drained from the carb and packed away and later installed.....

Yesterday I put 5 gallons of gas in the X to do a system check for any leaks while pumping the system up....No leaks whatsoever...Today, I put 5 gallons in the X and did a fuel test again, no leaks and the carb was ready to rock....

I couldn't wait till next week.....So I put the key in the ignition and about a 1/4 revolution and BAM...Running like a champ....I touched NOTHING...So what you see in the video is the first start and run.....

Dave will be by next week of course to double-check everything and we will test the trans while the rear is off the ground....

Not the best video, it is from my cell phone....

Looks incredible and sounds great ! ! ! Well, well done . . .

Here is another curveball in the carb situation....Received this pic from a different carb expert....He stated it is a difficult question to answer and he has seen early dated carbs in 3 ways in relation to the air/fuel etc....Here is a pic showing an early date.....H8 date

Here is the one from your eBay ad below...L8 date
