After some research, I've noticed that if full flanged Ford small block headers are finely centered against a 318 poly head, the two inside runners will be too wide by .040" each, forcing the two outside runners to be off by .080". So if a section .080" wide is cut from the center of the flange, and then the flange pushed back together and welded, the two inside runners will be a match leaving the two outside runners just .040" off each, which could be fixed with mild runner matching.

Then, if the flange is wide enough, or extra material is welded on, the flange could be drilled for the mopar bolt pattern (which is different).

If one already has the ford headers, and clearance (starter, steering, etc.) is not a problem, it seems like a cheap way to get headers for the 318 poly. Anyone disagree, or has anyone tried this? Thanks!

I guess if you had set of small block ford headers laying around and just happened to need a set for a 318 poly.... then why not?

The end is near!!!The universe will implode!!! :pixie:

Will they clear steering gear, idler arms and K frame?

Ford and mopar do not interchange..
67 GTX
Id rather push my Plymouth than drive a ford!!!!!:eek:ld_school::eek:ld_school::ban:

No, not directly they don't, but well might with the mods I mentioned. I'm talking 318 poly, which has a different head exhaust port layout then a 318 LA. Sure beats the $600+ price tag on what's still available now. Clearing the starter, etc....well, I have an old set of long tubes but haven't tried to fit yet. Thinking about it, a set of shortys might work better. I'll post again when after I try this.

I guess one would have to look at the tubes path to even consider a try, but worth a try it is if it looks like it may remotely clear.

how cheap are headers from summit that "LOOK" like they'll fit?

First of all I will say good parts is where you find them, and second, I like the way you think  The killer will be if it takes you more than $600.00 in time and materials to modify them. Or if you want to do it just because then go for it!

And the rest of yooz guys ease up on the Fords. Just because FORD spelled backwards is Driver Returns On Foot doesn't make me like my 71 Ranchero 351C 4V any less :tongueflap:

Mar, you kill me :rolling::rolling::rolling:

FORD also stands for First Out on Race Day... :hehe:

Hey Polkat, i'll hand it to ya...looks like you're a glutton for punishment, but if really want to try it, go for it!!

You might have the only polyford 318 on the planet! (well not for long, cuz the universe is goin' to black hole itself and kill us all if you pull it off!!! :pixie: )

Found On Road Dead? Fix Or Repair Daily?

I knew they were close to matching up. But like others have said, it's a question of where the tubes run and if they will clear everything

Yea, I'm going to try it and I'll report back. A good former/welder can move tubes if required. Might not help flow much, but will be a cheap experiment as I see it.

I'll sell you a new set of shortys for $200 plus the ride. I'm going with TTI

Sounds like $250.00 of that got used up just analyzing the situation.

Y can't you just take a gasket to a good welding shop get them to cut you two flanges out buy a header kit and make your own ......Artie
