My machinist told me that he has a guy who only does cranks who sells reman forged cranks all ready to go with bearings for around 400 no machining needed. I now need to decide what im gonna do about a new crank

you could turn over the old crank for salvage metal price. what would that get you? another $3-$5? no idea what steel is bringing but that's pretty good quality steel.

Last time I hauled in some scrap was 2 weeks ago and it brought 9 cents a lb but prices vary all over the nation......

and the last crank I sold the buyer said it was cracked. I don't sell them anymore without having them checked first and try to supply paper work with them.

Ours down here is about 13 bucks per hundred pounds. If it's ferrous metal, it all goes in the same pile. Aluminum copper brass and other stuff has a higher rate.
