After putting up with the growling in the rear end for most of last season I pulled the axles to check the bearings, hoping to find something. I have had this set of Green bearings in the car for over 12 years and 11k miles, one of them was nice and smooth but the other had a tight spot in it. The tight spot was barely there but you could feel it. After cutting to bearings off there it was, a 1/2" long spot on the race, looked like a spot of corrosion that made a small depression in the metal, could have been there during the manufacturing process. Other than the noise that would be more noticeable at low speed while the car was cold, I doubt this would have caused any problem unless it got a lot worse, all the ball bearings rolled true on the bench. Anyway another set of Green bearings and a fresh set of linings and we are back in business.

I'm glad you made this thread. I just replaced a borg unit for a clutch type and recurved my distributor. Got it to a 100 mph on the freeway onramp. That seem to be the only place you can really jump on it. It was so Fu+++G fantastic . My car is so F333333G BAD . I'M STOKED . no more pinging ,.
